Watch this short clip to discover how Arup is shaping a better world and how you could be part of it!

The Opportunity

Our award-winning Business and Investor Advisory (BIA) team, recognized as the European Technical Advisor of the Year for the last four years, is recruiting a senior energy consultant to work on various projects focusing on the energy transition sectors and contribute to projects and business development in hydrogen, synthetic fuel, and bioenergy sectors. You will have the opportunity to work on a range of UK and international assignments in the energy transition sector, such as hydrogen, synthetic fuels, long-duration energy storage, clean tech manufacturing, asset decarbonization, and repurposing existing assets for a low-carbon economy. This may also include projects in biomass, battery storage, biofuels, geothermal, and district heating.

We seek a well-rounded individual with experience covering technical, environmental, economic, commercial, and operational issues, or someone eager to develop expertise in these areas. The candidate should be familiar with market standards, key players, contracting terms, design practices, regulatory considerations, and risk mitigation in the energy sector.

In addition to technical and commercial due diligence and project development, there will be opportunities to:

  • Undertake projects in other energy sectors such as renewables (wind, hydro, solar), utilities (gas, water, electricity).
  • Support energy projects within corporate finance and energy strategy & economics.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective that encourages individuality. Our strength comes from respecting and sharing diverse experiences, perspectives, and ideas. You will have the opportunity to do socially meaningful work that benefits Arup, your career, our members, and the communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

As a senior team member, you will lead projects ensuring performance, quality, and client satisfaction. You will advise on technical, environmental, economic, commercial, and operational issues, mainly in the energy services sector, including district heating, energy efficiency, batteries, energy service contracting, and distributed energy. Responsibilities include monitoring project construction and conducting technical due diligence for greenfield, in-construction, and operational projects. You will lead, coordinate, and produce technical and commercial due diligence and market reports.

You will also lead business development activities, especially in sustainable fuel and energy storage projects, build new relationships, and manage client bids, contributing to work-winning efforts. There may be opportunities for short overseas travel, mainly in Europe.

Requirements:

  • A background in the energy sector or relevant infrastructure experience.
  • Technical and commercial understanding of energy infrastructure, including design, development, contracting, construction, and operations.
  • Experience in consultancy or advisory industries is desirable; experience with due diligence is advantageous.
  • Bachelor’s degree and Chartered (CEng) qualification in relevant engineering disciplines, or relevant finance/economics qualifications.
  • Knowledge or enthusiasm to develop a strong understanding of the sector’s economic, environmental, and regulatory aspects.
