Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham invites applications for a 12-month locum consultant post in Emergency Medicine. The role provides visible senior leadership on the shop floor, oversees clinical risk and patient flow, and supervises trainees and advanced practitioners while leading the trauma team.

The post requires full GMC registration, Specialist Register in Emergency Medicine, or within six months of CCT, and participation in weekend on-call duties; RCEM guidance underpins practice.

Qualifications

• Medical degree MBBS or equivalent.
• FRCEM or equivalent required.
• Full GMC registration.
• Specialist Register entry in Emergency Medicine, or within six months of CCT.
• Experience in trauma leadership and governance.

Responsabilités

• Provide visible senior clinical leadership on the shop floor.
• Manage clinical risk, patient flow and operational pressure in the department.
• Deliver consultant-led care supporting safe, timely, high-quality patient care in line with RCEM guidance.
• Supervise trainees and advanced practitioners.
• Lead the trauma team.
• Teach resident doctors and nurses.
• Contribute to ongoing development of Emergency Medicine services at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
• Contribute to service development, pathway redesign and quality improvement.
• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team including doctors in training, locally employed doctors, medical students and Emergency and Advanced Care Practitioners.
• Fulfil agreed on-call commitments.
