Senior Embedded Systems Engineer, Watford, Hertfordshire

Company Overview

Flux has developed the world’s first Optical Tensor Processing Unit (OTPU). Flux's OTPUs are custom-designed AI accelerators optimized for training and inference of large AI models. Join us in London to be part of a dynamic team that thrives on innovation and speed.

The role

We’re searching for Senior Embedded Engineers to design and build high-performance tooling supporting our OTPU hardware development. You will own tools that span hardware safety, calibration, debugging, and validation. Your mission is to go from concept to deployment—rapidly iterating, prototyping, and delivering robust embedded solutions that enable our OTPUs to operate safely, efficiently, and push their performance limits.

Responsibilities

  • Architect robust tooling for hardware validation and bring-up, with rapid prototyping in Python and a clear path to production-grade implementations.
  • Design and implement embedded systems for hardware safety, synchronization, and low-level control.
  • Develop calibration and debug tooling, primarily in Python.
  • Define and implement CI/CD infrastructure tailored for embedded development, ensuring fast iteration and high confidence in system integrity.
  • Create systems for real-time monitoring, diagnostics, and fault handling across OTPU hardware.
  • Define and enforce boundaries between prototype and production code for maintainability.
  • Collaborate with optical, hardware, and software teams to align on system interfaces, requirements, and performance goals.

Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years experience with bring-up, calibration, and debug of custom hardware systems (e.g., SoCs, FPGAs, AI accelerators)
  • Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded applications, with understanding of real-time constraints, memory models, and hardware interfaces
  • Strong Python skills for prototyping, automation, and testing
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines for embedded development
  • Proficiency with hardware debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG, etc.)
  • Understanding of hardware/software boundaries, including interrupt handling, bus protocols (e.g., PCIe), and memory-mapped I/O
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to thrive in fast-paced, cross-disciplinary environments

Details

  • Salary: £135,000 - £165,000 depending on experience
  • Stock options in a rapidly growing AI company
  • Location: London, Kings Cross, with a 45-minute commute requirement; additional £24,000/year incentive for those within 20 minutes
  • Comprehensive healthcare insurance
  • Private use of 3D printer

If you are passionate about advancing AI and thrive in a high-energy environment, we want to hear from you. Apply now to join Flux and shape the future of computing.
