Job description

Company Overview

Flux has developed the world’s first Optical Tensor Processing Unit (OTPU). Flux's OTPUs are custom-designed AI accelerators optimized for training and inference of large AI models. Join us in London to be part of a dynamic team that thrives on innovation and speed.

The role

We’re searching for Senior Embedded Engineers to design and build high-performance tooling supporting our OTPU hardware development. You will own tools related to hardware safety, calibration, debugging, and validation. Your mission is to move from concept to deployment rapidly, iterating, prototyping, and delivering robust embedded solutions that ensure our OTPUs operate safely, efficiently, and push performance boundaries.

Responsibilities

  • Architect robust tooling for hardware validation and bring-up, with rapid prototyping in Python and a clear path to production implementations.
  • Design and implement embedded systems for hardware safety, synchronization, and low-level control.
  • Develop calibration and debug tools, mainly in Python.
  • Define and implement CI/CD infrastructure for embedded development, enabling fast iteration and system integrity.
  • Create systems for real-time monitoring, diagnostics, and fault handling across OTPU hardware.
  • Establish clear boundaries between prototype and production code to ensure maintainability.
  • Collaborate with optical, hardware, and software teams to align on system interfaces, requirements, and performance goals.

Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years experience with hardware bring-up, calibration, and debugging of systems like SoCs, FPGAs, or AI accelerators.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded applications, understanding real-time constraints, memory models, and hardware interfaces.
  • Strong Python skills for prototyping, automation, and testing.
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines for embedded development.
  • Knowledge of hardware debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG) and electrical signal interpretation.
  • Understanding of hardware/software boundaries, including interrupt handling, bus protocols (e.g., PCIe), and memory-mapped I/O.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to thrive in fast-paced, cross-disciplinary startup environments.

Details

  • Salary: £135,000 - £165,000, depending on experience.
  • Stock options in a growing AI company.
  • Location: Our new office in Kings Cross, London.
  • All employees are required to work from our London HQ and live within a 45-minute commute; an extra £24,000/year is offered for those within 20 minutes.
  • Healthcare insurance included.
  • Private use of our 3D printer.

If you are passionate about AI and thrive in a high-energy environment, we want to hear from you. Apply now to join Flux and shape the future of computing.
