Job Description:

Company Overview

Flux has developed the world’s first Optical Tensor Processing Unit (OTPU). Flux's OTPUs are custom-designed AI accelerators optimized for training and inference of large AI models. Join us in London to be part of a dynamic team that thrives on innovation and speed.

The role

We’re searching for Senior Embedded Engineers to design and build high-performance tooling supporting our OTPU hardware development. You will own tools related to hardware safety, calibration, debugging, and validation, from concept to deployment—rapidly iterating, prototyping, and delivering embedded solutions that enable OTPUs to operate safely, efficiently, and at peak performance.

Responsibilities

  • Architect robust tooling for hardware validation and bring-up, with rapid prototyping in Python and a clear path to production.
  • Design and implement embedded systems for hardware safety, synchronization, and low-level control.
  • Develop calibration and debug tooling, primarily in Python.
  • Define and implement CI/CD infrastructure for embedded development to enable fast iteration and system reliability.
  • Create systems for real-time monitoring, diagnostics, and fault handling on OTPU hardware.
  • Establish boundaries between prototype and production code for maintainability.
  • Collaborate with optical, hardware, and software teams to align on system interfaces, requirements, and performance goals.

Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years experience with hardware bring-up, calibration, and debugging (e.g., SoCs, FPGAs, AI accelerators).
  • Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded applications, understanding real-time constraints and hardware interfaces.
  • Strong Python skills for prototyping and automation.
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines for embedded systems.
  • Proficiency with hardware debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG).
  • Solid understanding of hardware/software boundaries, including interrupt handling, bus protocols (e.g., PCIe), and memory-mapped I/O.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to work in fast-paced, cross-disciplinary environments.

Details

  • Salary: £135,000–£165,000, depending on experience.
  • Stock options in a growing AI company.
  • Location: Our new office in Kings Cross, London.
  • All employees are expected to work from London HQ and live within a 45-minute commute; a £24,000/year incentive is offered for those within 20 minutes.
  • Comprehensive healthcare insurance.
  • Private use of our 3D printer.

If you are passionate about advancing AI and thrive in a high-energy environment, we want to hear from you. Apply now to join Flux and shape the future of computing.
