Job description

Carv is on a mission to unlock the enjoyment of better skiing. We use AI, real-time feedback, and sensor-driven data to help skiers measure their technique and improve.

Our team builds the hardware, firmware, software, and coaching intelligence behind Carv: a connected sensor product used by skiers around the world. We work across wearable sensors, real-time feedback, biomechanics, mobile apps, and production systems.

If you love building products and want to help improve how everyone learns a sport, we want to hear from you.

The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer to help own the firmware and embedded systems at the heart of Carv.

This is a firmware-leaning role for someone who is comfortable working across the full hardware stack. You should be strong at embedded software, but also confident reading schematics, bringing up boards, debugging electronics in the lab, and working with production test systems.

You do not need to be a pure PCB layout specialist. You do need to be the kind of engineer who can debug issues across electronics and firmware.

You’ll work on next-generation sensor development, production firmware, automated test equipment and internal diagnostic tools used by over 100,000 skiers globally.

What You'll Do

  • Architect, develop, and maintain firmware for Carv’s connected sensor systems.

  • Work on low-power, resource-constrained embedded systems using embedded C/C++.

  • Help develop next-generation sensing hardware, including early prototypes, bring-up, validation, and productionisation.

  • Debug issues across firmware, electronics, Bluetooth, sensors, power, and manufacturing test systems.

  • Build and improve production firmware, test jigs, automated test equipment, and calibration or diagnostic workflows.

  • Work with manufacturing partners to improve reliability, yield, and production debug tooling.

  • Develop internal tools that help our team and Customer Success proactively diagnose hardware and firmware issues in the field.

  • Collaborate closely within the hardware team and with the data science, app, and product teams.

  • Mentor other engineers and raise the standard for how we design, test, document, and debug embedded systems.

What We're Looking For

  • 7+ years of experience in embedded systems, firmware, or closely related hardware product development.

  • Strong embedded C/C++ experience on resource-constrained devices.

  • Strong bare metal and RTOS experience (Zephyr preferred).

  • Experience taking firmware or embedded systems from prototype through to production (10k+ unit volume).

  • Comfortable debugging hardware with tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analysers, debuggers, and RF/Bluetooth diagnostic tools.

  • Ability to read schematics and reason about electronics, sensors, power systems, and board-level behaviour.

  • Strong practical judgment: you can move quickly, but you know when reliability, testability, and process matter. You have a good eye for detail.

  • Enjoyment of working independently doing broad, hands-on engineering work in a startup or small team.

  • Interest in sport, coaching, skiing, or human performance. Beginner skiers welcome.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Nordic nRF microcontrollers.

  • Bluetooth Low Energy experience, especially debugging real-world connection or reliability issues.

  • Experience with IMUs, sensor fusion, real-time signal processing, or on-device data processing.

  • Experience designing or maintaining automated production test systems.

  • Experience with high-volume consumer electronics products.

  • PCB layout experience, especially for small, low-power, sensor-rich products.

  • Experience with Rust (the language of our server, app and testjig backends).

  • Experience building diagnostic tools for customer support, manufacturing, or field debugging.

Why Join Carv?

  • Work on a game-changing product that combines AI, biomechanics, sensors, and coaching.

  • Work across the full embedded stack, from electronics and board bring-up through firmware, diagnostics and production tooling, with broad ownership that lets you shape the product experience end-to-end.

  • Help shape the future of digital sports coaching.

  • Work with a small, ambitious team where hardware, firmware, software, and product decisions are tightly connected.

  • Spend time in the mountains through our Park City and Innsbruck offices, and work with some of the best ski professionals in the world.

  • Visa sponsorship is available.
