Job summary

Platform Recruitment, on behalf of a rapidly growing UK consultancy, seeks a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join the Newcastle upon Tyne team. You will develop high-quality embedded and systems software in C/C++ on Linux-based platforms and contribute to challenging engineering projects.

The role offers strong career development toward principal and lead positions, with close collaboration with clients and engineers. A 1st class BEng and solid RTOS/Linux experience are essential.

Qualifications

• 1st class BEng in electronics or computer engineering from a top 100 global university.
• Strong A-Levels in maths & science subjects.
• Strong C/C++ on embedded Linux & RTOS platforms.

Responsibilities

• Developing high-quality embedded and systems software primarily using C and/or C++.
• Working with Linux-based embedded and software platforms.
• Investigating difficult technical problems and debugging issues at both software and system level.
• Working with engineers, technical specialists and clients to understand requirements and develop pragmatic solutions.
• Taking ownership of development tasks and seeing them through from initial concept to delivery.

• Working with Linux-based embedded and software platforms

Required Experience

Education

• 1st class BEng in a electronics or computer engineering from a top 100 global university
• Strong A-Levels in maths & science subjects

Technical

• Strong C/C++ on embedded Linux & RTOS platforms
• Experience with serial and/or network protocols (UART, I2C, SPI, TCP/IP, UDP, Ethernet etc.)
• Experience with Python, and another higher-level language like C#
• Completed performance critical software projects

Bonus Skills

• Proficiency with AI-assisted software development/code testing workflows
• Cybersecurity or secure software development experience
• Industrial experience in commercially challenging/highly regulated sectors
