Job summary

The Ellison Institute of Technology Oxford is seeking a Senior Electronics R&D Engineer to develop advanced electronic interfaces, instrumentation and measurement systems for next-generation nanopore sequencing technologies.

This hands‑on role takes technologies from proof of concept through to integrated, multi‑channel sensing systems, collaborating with the Senior MEMS Development Engineer and external partners to deliver robust prototypes and scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Significant R&D experience with instrumentation and precision measurement.
• Strong analogue, mixed-signal knowledge, and low-noise design.
• Proven ability to design, build and debug hardware and lab test systems.
• Experience automating tests and data analysis with scripting or programming.
• Ability to collaborate across MEMS, mechanical, and electronics teams.

Responsibilities

• Own electrical engineering development from concepts to prototypes.
• Design and commission custom test equipment and platforms.
• Develop multi-channel analogue circuits and data acquisition.
• Collaborate with MEMS and device teams to iterate designs.
• Create low-noise measurement systems and signal conditioning.
• Plan experiments, analyse data, and translate to requirements.
• Coordinate with external suppliers and oversee integrations.
• Document results and support IP development.
