SR2 REC Ltd in Reading, a rising UK defence engineering business, seeks a hands-on Senior Electronics Engineer to develop high‑performance electrical systems within the Power Electronics division. You will own designs from early concept through schematic, PCB development and hardware bring‑up, working with firmware, controls, mechanical and test engineers.
Initially focused on compact, high‑performance power conversion and electric drive systems, the role welcomes engineers from broader power
We're looking for a hands‑on Electronics Engineer to join a growing UK defence engineering business developing high‑performance electrical systems. This role will join the Power Electronics division within the company.
This isn't a role where you'll own one small part of a mature product. You'll have the opportunity to take designs from early concept and topology selection through schematic, PCB development, hardware bring‑up, testing and eventual production, working closely with firmware, controls, mechanical and test engineers.
The initial work is centred around compact, high‑performance power conversion and electric drive systems, but we're open to engineers coming from a broader power electronics background.
We'd be interested in speaking with engineers who have strong hands‑on power electronics design experience - you don't need to have worked across every area below.
Strong hands‑on power electronics design experience
Experience designing power converters, inverters, motor drives or similar high‑power electronic systems
Analogue / power electronic circuit design and schematic capture
Power semiconductor, gate drive and current / voltage sensing experience
Hands‑on hardware bring‑up, testing and debugging
Good understanding of thermal, switching and electrical performance
Experience taking designs beyond simulation and working with physical hardware
SC eligible - dual British / NATO nationalities considered
Three‑phase inverters or electric motor drives
PCB layout using Altium Designer or similar
High‑density / high‑power‑density electronics
GaN or SiC devices
EMI / EMC considerations in switching power electronics
Design for Manufacture and Test (DFM / DFT)
Battery systems, charging or power distribution
Motor control / Field‑Oriented Control interfaces
CAN or other embedded communications
Aerospace, defence, automotive, motorsport, robotics or industrial power electronics
Taking hardware from prototype through to production
Permanent, full‑time position
Competitive salary depending on experience
Reading area, onsite
Senior hands‑on engineering position rather than people management
Significant ownership of designs from concept through to physical hardware
Close collaboration with firmware, controls, mechanical and test engineers
Opportunity to influence both the technology and engineering approach as the team grows
