Job summary

MICROTECH GLOBAL LTD in the United Kingdom seeks an experienced hardware design engineer to drive full lifecycle hardware development from concept to production, specializing in mixed analogue/digital design and MCU implementations.

You will execute circuit and board level design, perform lab bring-up and testing, ensure EMC/DFM/DFT compliance, and mentor junior engineers while interfacing with clients to defend design choices.

Qualifications

• Extensive commercial background taking designs from concept to production.
• Mixed analogue and digital design with micro-controllers.
• Schematic capture in Altium.
• Strong lab capabilities for fault finding and measurement.
• Power supply design (SMPS) and multi-bit MCUs.
• Awareness of SI/PI and EMC testing; good edge-case handling.

Responsibilities

• Own hardware design from concept to production.
• Design circuit and PCB level, select components, simulate.
• Carry out board bring-up, testing, and fault finding.
• Guide PCB layout engineers on constraints; ensure DFM/DFT/EMC/safety.
• Interpret client specs, assess risks, and estimate technical effort for quotes.
• Mentor junior engineers and act as technical reference.

Key Responsibilities

Full Lifecycle Design: Own hardware technical design from initial concept and architecture through to a fully manufacturable product.

Circuit & Board Level: Execute circuit design, component selection, worst-case analysis, and simulation.

Lab Work: Conduct board bring-up, testing, measurement, and fault finding.

Collaboration & Compliance: Guide PCB layout engineers (setting constraints); design for DFM, DFT, EMC, safety, and qualification.

Client & Commercial: Interpret client specs, flag risks, provide technical effort estimates for quotes, and defend design choices in technical reviews.

Mentorship: Act as a technical reference point for junior engineers.

Must-Have Requirements (Essential)

Extensive commercial background taking designs from concept to production

Mixed Analogue and Digital Design with Micro-controllers.

Schematic Capture (Altium specifically).

Strong lab capabilities (fault finding, measurement).

Power & Processing: Switched Mode Power Supply (SMPS) design; 8/16/32/64-Bit Microprocessors.

Integrity & Testing: Awareness of Signal/Power Integrity (SI/PI) in high-speed designs; strong grasp of EMC testing.

Comms Protocols: CAN, Ethernet, RS485, USB.
