Cortech is seeking an Advanced Electro-Mechanical Development Engineer in Dundee, UK. The role focuses on leading electro‑mechanical system design and hands‑on prototyping for next‑generation aquaculture solutions. Hybrid work is allowed with 3 days in the office.

You’ll own early‑stage development, from concept generation through to near‑production prototypes, collaborating across mechanical, electronics and software teams to deliver tangible, field‑ready technology.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Mechatronics, electro‑mechanical engineering or related field.
• 3–5 years in electro‑mechanical product development from concept to prototype.
• Ability to own end‑to‑end development lifecycle including concept, prototyping and iteration.
• Experience with electronics integration, sensors, actuators or control modules.
• Strong prototyping and troubleshooting in lab or field environments.
• Knowledge of sheet metal, plastics, CNC, cabling and rapid prototyping methods.
• Design for assembly, environmental sealing, EMI considerations and interface design.
• Clear communication and documentation across interdisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end development of electro‑mechanical technologies from concept to prototype.
• Work autonomously while aligning with engineering leadership.
• Build and test high quality physical prototypes to evaluate performance.
• Create CAD models, drawings and documentation (SolidWorks) for production readiness.
• Perform design analysis to meet performance, cost and safety targets.
• Collaborate with software, mechanical and electrical teams on system performance.
• Contribute technical insights to proposals and product planning.
• Mentor junior engineers to foster continuous improvement and innovation.
