Job description

Senior Electrical Hardware Engineer

Location: Crawley, West Sussex

Working arrangement: Four days on site per week

Salary: Dependent on experience

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Electrical Hardware Engineer to join an aerospace organisation developing advanced flight simulation systems for customers worldwide.

This hands-on senior position offers the opportunity to lead electrical hardware design, influence technical decisions and support the delivery of complex, integrated systems. You will work closely with mechanical, software and systems engineers, providing technical guidance and helping develop junior colleagues.

The role
  • Lead the design and development of electrical hardware for flight simulators, from initial requirements and concept through to testing and production release.
  • Design single-phase and three-phase power distribution systems, including switchgear selection, protection coordination and cable-sizing calculations.
  • Produce technical specifications, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and panel layouts, maintaining clear documentation and traceability.
  • Support computing-system integration, including rack power distribution, cooling requirements and high-density signal and data cabling.
  • Apply EMC design principles, including shielding, filtering, grounding and cable segregation, and support or lead EMC testing.
  • Conduct hardware testing, validation and troubleshooting, ensuring designs meet performance, reliability and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects within agreed timescales and budgets.
  • Provide technical leadership, support design reviews and mentor junior engineers.
What we're looking for
  • Substantial electrical hardware design experience, ideally within flight simulation, aerospace, defence or capital equipment.
  • Strong experience designing single-phase and three-phase power distribution systems.
  • Proficiency with electrical CAD tools for schematic capture, wiring diagrams and panel layouts.
  • Practical knowledge of EMC design and testing, alongside BS 7671, the Low Voltage Directive, EMC Directive and relevant standards.
  • Experience working through a structured design lifecycle, including formal design reviews, verification and production release.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a closely related discipline.

Flight simulation or avionics experience would be advantageous, although candidates from transferable sectors such as automotive or wind energy are also welcome. Chartered Engineer status, progress towards chartership, an 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification, and engineering team or project leadership experience would be beneficial.

Benefits
  • Matched pension contributions up to 7%.
  • 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, with additional days for length of service.
  • Option to buy or sell up to five days' holiday.
  • Private medical insurance and digital GP access.
  • Life assurance at four times base salary and Group Income Protection.
  • Employee Assistance Programme, including 24/7 mental health and wellbeing support.
  • Employee referral scheme and discounts across retail, travel and leisure.
