Job summary

MDE Group in London is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to support solar PV and battery storage initiatives. You will deliver electrical design packages from development through construction and commissioning, collaborating with project teams to tackle technical challenges.

Qualifications

• Relevant electrical engineering degree required.

Responsibilities

• Produce and review electrical designs, specifications and calculations for solar PV and battery storage projects.
• Develop LV and MV designs, including equipment selection, protection coordination and earthing.
• Prepare drawings and technical requirements for control, monitoring and SCADA systems.
• Coordinate engineering deliverables with internal teams, suppliers and contractors.
• Support tender submissions, technical evaluations and equipment procurement.
• Review factory and site acceptance testing requirements.
• Ensure designs meet applicable standards and project requirements.

Job description

Role: Senior Electrical Engineer – Solar & BESS

Location: London, Hybrid

Type: Full-time, Permanent

MDE Group is working with a renewable energy business looking to strengthen its engineering team with a Senior Electrical Design Engineer.

Supporting solar PV and battery storage projects, you’ll take responsibility for electrical design packages and provide technical input from early development through to construction and commissioning. This would suit an engineer who enjoys detailed design work and collaborating with project teams to resolve practical engineering challenges.

The role

• Produce and review electrical designs, specifications and calculations for solar PV and battery storage projects.
• Develop LV and MV designs, including equipment selection, protection coordination and earthing.
• Prepare drawings and technical requirements for control, monitoring and SCADA systems.
• Coordinate engineering deliverables with internal teams, suppliers and contractors.
• Support tender submissions, technical evaluations and equipment procurement.
• Review factory and site acceptance testing requirements.
• Ensure designs meet applicable standards and project requirements.

What we’re looking for

• A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience in electrical design and project delivery, ideally within solar PV, battery storage or the wider power sector.
• Around five years’ relevant experience would be advantageous, although the scope and depth of your experience will also be considered.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and relevant simulation tools, such as PVsyst or DIgSILENT.
• Knowledge of LV/MV systems, with protection coordination and international standards experience beneficial.
• Confidence managing your own workload and communicating technical information clearly.
• Professional registration, or an interest in working towards it.
• A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel internationally.
