Job summary

Tetra Tech Europe is seeking an Electrical Building Services Engineer to support the delivery of electrical designs across life sciences, defence, healthcare and renewable energy sectors in a Manchester-based team. You’ll produce designs, calculations, reports and drawings from concept through to construction to meet client requirements and regulatory standards.

Job description

At Tetra Tech, you’ll work on technically diverse building services projects across sectors such as life sciences, defence, healthcare and renewable energy, contributing to innovative and coordinated design solutions within a collaborative engineering team.

Purpose & Scope of the Role

As an Electrical Building Services Engineer, you will support the delivery of engineering consultancy services across projects from early concept through to detailed design and construction stages. Working within multidisciplinary design teams, you will produce electrical designs, calculations, reports and drawings that meet client requirements and regulatory standards. You will be involved across multiple sectors and across the design lifecycle, typically aligned with RIBA stages 1-4. You will also support site surveys, construction-stage duties, and coordination with clients, architects and other engineering disciplines to ensure successful project delivery.

Your Impact in this position

You will contribute to the successful delivery of technically complex projects by applying strong electrical design expertise and sound engineering judgement. Your work will help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with best practice. By managing your own workload across multiple projects and engaging effectively with clients and project teams, you will help strengthen project outcomes while supporting sustainable and energy‑efficient building systems. You will also help maintain high design quality and consistency across project deliverables.

Core Capabilities

• Electrical Engineering Design Deliver electrical building services designs across multiple sectors from concept through to completion; produce calculations, specifications, reports and plant schedules; apply knowledge of relevant technical standards and legislation.
• Project Delivery & Coordination Work across multiple projects simultaneously while managing priorities effectively; collaborate with multidisciplinary teams; contribute to site surveys and construction‑stage activities.
• Digital Engineering & Modelling Use tools such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit MEP, Relux, Dialux, Amtech and NBS; support the production and review of drawings and technical documentation.
• Sustainable Engineering & Innovation Develop designs that consider energy efficiency and sustainability; apply knowledge of renewable technologies and low‑carbon building systems.
• Communication & Collaboration Communicate technical information clearly through reports and documentation; build effective relationships with clients and project partners; work collaboratively to deliver successful outcomes.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

You will ideally hold an accredited Building Services or Electrical Engineering degree and have relevant experience in electrical building services design. You should demonstrate strong technical capability, confidence working independently and an interest in progressing towards Chartered Engineer status. Experience using digital design tools and delivering work across multiple projects will be beneficial. Experience at Senior level, including contributing to project coordination and mentoring others, would also be advantageous. Security clearance (or meet the criteria to hold) MOD SC level is required.

Working Environment

This role is based in Manchester within a busy building services team. Hybrid or flexible working arrangements may be available, depending on project and business needs. Projects may span a range of sectors and require collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
