Job summary

Penguin Recruitment is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for Building Services to join our clients in Cardiff or Bristol. The role offers hybrid working and a clear path to Chartered status through mentorship and professional development.

You will lead electrical design across RIBA stages, manage projects, and work closely with clients while mentoring junior engineers. Strong LV, power, lighting, fire alarm and HV knowledge is essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years' experience in electrical building services design.
• Proven project leadership experience and ability to mentor junior engineers.
• Membership with CIBSE or IET, or working towards Chartered Engineer status.
• Strong knowledge of LV distribution, power systems, lighting design, fire alarms, HV infrastructure.
• Experience with CAD and BIM software.

Senior Electrical Engineer - Building Services

Location: Cardiff / Bristol

Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £45,000 - £60,000 (dependent on experience)

Overview

An established building services consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join its growing team in either Cardiff or Bristol. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer with at least five years' experience in electrical building services design who is looking to lead projects, mentor junior engineers, and work closely with clients across a diverse range of innovative developments.

The successful candidate will have proven project leadership experience, strong technical knowledge of LV distribution, power systems, lighting design, fire alarms, and HV infrastructure, alongside proficiency with industry-standard design and BIM software. Membership with CIBSE or IET (or working towards it), together with progress towards Chartered Engineer status, would be highly advantageous.

Day-to-Day

Your typical day will involve:

• Collaborating with clients and project teams to develop tailored electrical engineering solutions.
• Preparing detailed designs, calculations, and specifications for building services projects.
• Leading project meetings and ensuring effective communication across all stakeholders.
• Reviewing and approving technical documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Conducting site visits to monitor progress, resolve issues, and ensure quality standards are met.
• Supporting the professional development of junior team members through mentoring and training.
