Job summary

Critical Project Resourcing Ltd in London is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to take technical ownership of electrical systems across the High Speed Rail HS2 Main Works Civils Associated programme.

This building services role spans electrical distribution, lighting, distribution boards and building management controls; you will work with civil contractors to ensure designs and installations meet the required standards and regulations.

Senior Electrical Engineer, High Speed Rail, Main Works Civils Associated

Our client is looking for a Senior M&E Engineer to take technical ownership of electrical systems across one of the most complex infrastructure programmes in Europe. This is a broad, programme-wide role, covering electrical distribution, lighting, distribution boards and building management controls across the full length of the HS2 project. You will be working directly with the Main Works Civil Contractors, making sure that electrical systems are designed, specified and installed to a standard that works for the railway that will one day operate them. You will be the first port of call for technical queries and engineering questions.

This is a building services role at programme scale. You will develop and maintain technical requirements and standards for electrical systems, assure that contractor design and installation meets those requirements, and work through issues where it does not. You will engage with internal teams and external contractors regularly, managing the interfaces between electrical systems and other parts of the infrastructure. The work spans the full project footprint, and it asks for someone who can hold a consistent technical line across multiple contracts and delivery partners at the same time. The role is London based, with ad hoc site visits as the programme requires.

What you need to bring

• Your background is in electrical engineering within building services or major infrastructure. You do not need to have worked in rail before. What matters is that you have worked on large, complex, multi-disciplinary programmes where you have held a technical position with real responsibility, managing competing priorities across more than one workstream. Experience of managing standards activity, or of acting as a technical authority on a major programme, is what our client is looking for.
• You will be comfortable advising non-specialist colleagues and external stakeholders, writing clearly about technical matters, and knowing when to refer upwards or across to a subject matter expert. An understanding of UK construction regulations, including CDM requirements, is expected.

Useful to have

• Familiarity with the Common Safety Method for risk evaluation and assessment.
• Experience of working across multi-disciplinary teams where electrical systems interface with civil, mechanical or other engineering disciplines.
• Commercial awareness, including an understanding of cost and schedule constraints on large programmes.
