Unleash your superpower and bring energy to life.
National Grid is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer for our Network Architecture & Innovation Team based in Warwick.About the roleAs a Senior Electrical Engineer, you’ll identify and drive new and complex opportunities for National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) growth, utilising your technical expertise to convert them into tangible solutions and services, to take us further towards Net Zero.
You will develop engineering strategies identifying and driving new and complex opportunities for growth within Electricity Transmission (ET). You will be responsible for delivering our strategy projects using SME expertise within the team and organisation, also supporting other projects with your expertise.
Carrying out power system analysis, specialist solution design and lead engineering activities that convert existing, new and complex opportunities into prototype innovative and ‘first time’ engineering solutions that can be adopted, you’ll develop models that provide engineering solution insights comparing proposed or modelled scenarios.
Climate change is the biggest challenge facing our generation. The transition to clean energy is critical to helping us achieve the goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050. As National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) is at the heart of the energy transition in the UK, we have a big part to play in supporting the delivery of a decarbonised energy system.
What you'll do- Identify and drive complex, high-impact opportunities for Electricity Transmission (ET) growth, leveraging technical expertise to convert them into tangible products and services.
- Conduct detailed power flow analyses on the ET network and propose compliant designs and schemes in line with the Security and Quality of Supply Standard (SQSS).
- Apply power systems knowledge to evaluate ET’s investment plans against a range of future energy scenarios.
- Develop innovative engineering solutions by integrating diverse data sources and conducting advanced power system analyses.
- Demonstrate a strong passion for programming and coding, with a focus on developing tools and models that enhance engineering insight.
- Communicate the "art of the possible" to internal and external stakeholders through well-structured, technically sound business cases that articulate benefits, enable opportunity development, and address risk.

- Transition developed opportunities into business-as-usual processes, providing technical support and strategic guidance to ensure successful adoption.
- Engage with customers, partners, stakeholders, government bodies, and other key influencers to maximise the potential for growth and innovation.
- Lead power system analysis, specialist solution design, and engineering activities that transform complex opportunities into innovative, scalable solutions.
- Build and refine electrical models to support long-term strategic planning and scenario comparison.
- Analyse the impact of varying generation and demand profiles on the transmission network to inform operational and investment decisions.
What you'll needWe are looking for an experienced electrical engineer with a Power Systems background and an ability to develop engineering solutions to real life scenarios and Net Zero challenges.
You’ll have a STEM degree with experience of the electrical or utilities industry and will have experience conducting power system studies and experience building models which give insights into long-term strategies. We are also looking for someone who has a knack for programming, writing and reading code (Python/SQL).
Experience of managing a solution focused team to deliver results will be needed as well as strong stakeholder management, analytical, problem-solving and project management skills.
Knowledge of how the electricity transmission industry works and one or more programming languages would be an advantage.
What you'll get- Annual salary of £61,000 per annum
