Job summary

Astute Power Team is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to support a nationwide fleet of Biomass and Energy from Waste power stations. You will act as the senior electrical authority across the portfolio, guiding concept to commissioning, ensuring plant reliability and long-term maintainability.

The role covers technical surveys, outages, improvements, and project delivery within a central Engineering Team across the UK.

Qualifications

• Ideally a degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Health and safety qualifications such as NEBOSH or IOSH preferred.
• Chartered status or working towards membership is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve electrical maintenance systems across the UK fleet.
• Provide electrical support during outages and major maintenance activities.
• Drive reliability and performance improvements of the power plant fleet.
• Conduct surveys, inspections and investigations for reliability gains.
• Support electrical upgrade and modification projects.
• Provide day-to-day electrical technical guidance across the fleet.
• Prepare technical specifications and coordinate with contractors and suppliers.

About the role

Astutes Power Team are recruiting for a Senior Electrical Engineer to support a fleet of Biomass and Energy from Waste Power Stations across the United Kingdom. Working within the centralised Engineering Team, you'll be responsible for delivering electrical engineering expertise across the full lifecycle of the portfolio, this includes concept development and proposals, to detailed design, execution, commissioning and service modifications. You will act as the senior electrical authority on assigned projects supporting the plant performance, reliability and long term maintainability.

Responsibilities and duties

• Develop and continuously improve electrical maintenance systems, processes, and practices across the UK fleet.
• Provide electrical engineering support during planned outages, major maintenance activities, and critical operational interventions.
• Drive improvements in plant reliability, maintainability, and overall operational performance.
• Undertake technical surveys, inspections, condition assessments, and investigations to identify opportunities for reliability and maintenance improvements.
• Support and deliver electrical upgrade, modification, and improvement projects across operational power plants.
• Provide day-to-day electrical technical support across the UK power plant fleet, including remote troubleshooting, fault finding, inspections, and technical guidance.
• Develop technical specifications, coordinate technical activities with contractors and suppliers, and support the implementation of effective electrical engineering solutions.

Professional qualifications

• Ideally a degree in a related Engineering field such as Electrical Engineering
• Holder of NEBOSH or at least IOSH in Health & Safety (or similar).
• Member of a recognised Engineering institution such as Chartered (or working towards)Personal skills

The Senior Electrical Engineer role would suit someone with

• Extensive knowledge of legislation relating to electrical assets as well as Safe Systems of Work, Safety Rules & Permit to Work Systems.
• Experience working with High Voltage, Medium Voltage and Low Voltage systems, including transformers, generators, switchgear , UPS and protection systems
• At least three years supervisory experience in a relevant Engineering / Fleet / Asset position
• Experience with solid fuel plants such as Energy from Waste or Biomass - other forms of Power Generation will be considered
• Experience managing projects & outages
