Description

We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join a growing team in London. This is an exciting and challenging role where you will perform or support the Lead engineer position on one or more projects. Costain executes projects ranging from Concept Studies through to EPCm. Projects offer a variety of interesting challenges and great opportunities for personal and technical growth.

Responsibilities
  • Provide electrical discipline technical input for projects and proposals, including preparation and checking of engineering documentation such as Basis of Design, Power System Calculations, Earthing and Lightning Calculations, Equipment sizing calculations, Load Schedules, Equipment Specification and Datasheets, SLDs, Cable Schedules, Material Take Offs, BCDs, Schematics, Equipment and Cable Routing Layouts.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines.
  • Mentor and develop graduates and less experienced engineers.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, legislation, standards, and procedures.
  • Support procurement activities and prepare requisitions for electrical equipment.
  • Prepare installation scopes of work.
  • Review supplier quotations and prepare technical bid assessments.

Additional tasks may include:

  • Cable, Lighting, and Lightning Calculations.
  • HV Power System Modelling.
  • HV Protection Studies.
  • Support site teams with operational issues.
  • Assist with commissioning.

Qualifications
  • Degree in relevant engineering discipline (e.g., Electrical, Electronic, Control Engineering). Apprenticeships may be considered.
  • Chartered or Incorporated engineer status, or working towards these titles.
  • Good knowledge of design practices and installation requirements across industries.
  • Significant experience in the Oil & Gas or Energy industry.
  • Knowledge of UK legislation and standards.
  • Experience with equipment installation in process plants, including explosive areas.
  • Knowledge of CE marking, ATEX, PED, Low Voltage Directive, Machinery Directive, and EMC compliance.
  • Awareness of risk management and HSE requirements.
  • Highly motivated with good communication skills.
  • Safety-conscious and proactive in personal development.
  • Customer-focused.
