Job summary

SSE is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to serve as a Technical Authority within Thermal Engineering and Asset Management. You will collaborate with Thermal Operations, Commercial, Development and Business Development, and may deputise for the Electrical Engineering Manager as required.

Key responsibilities include recommendations for plant upgrades, electrical support for operational assets, and overseeing projects from concept to commissioning.

Qualifications

• Engineering Chartership with extensive experience in thermal power and gas storage electrical engineering.
• Strong technical skills with an understanding of technical and commercial interactions.
• Excellent communication skills for engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
• Ability to stay calm and credible under high-pressure external situations, including legal proceedings.

Responsibilities

• Provide recommendations for plant modifications and upgrades, including MPPC activities and final sign-offs.
• Offer specialist engineering support to operational assets and make go/no-go decisions.
• Oversee electrical engineering project activities from concept through construction to commissioning and testing.
• Assess electrical systems design to ensure safety and reliable performance during all project phases.
• Contribute to independent reviews of capital projects, RCAs and outage scope with final sign-offs.

Job description

Base Location:

You'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations - Leeds, Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Dublin or Reading

Salary:

£59,800 - £89,800 / €76,100 - €114,100 depending on skills and experience + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

As Senior Electrical Engineer you will report into the Electrical Engineering Manager and be accountable for providing Electrical Engineering Technical Authority within Thermal Engineering and Asset Management. You’ll work closely with key stakeholders across Thermal Operations, Commercial, Development and Business Development, and also deputise for the Electrical Engineering Manager when required.

Some of your other main accountabilities will include;

1. Providing recommendations for plant modifications & upgrades, including MPPC activities and final sign offs.
2. Providing specialist engineering support to operational assets and where required using electrical engineering expertise to provide go/no-go decisions for continued operation.
3. Overseeing electrical engineering project activities from concept to construction and final commissioning & testing.
4. Assessing electrical systems design and philosophy to ensure high levels of safety and reliable performance during design, construction and operation
5. Contributing to and independent reviews of capital projects, RCAs and outage scope reviews - including final sign-offs.

To be successful in this role, we would love you to have;

1. Engineering Chartership with extensive experience in thermal power and gas storage electrical engineering.
2. Strong technical skills, accompanied by a detailed understanding of technical/commercial interactions.
3. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently and effectively with stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
4. The ability to remain calm and credible in high-pressure external situations, including providing technical advice during legal proceedings and managing conflict professionally.
5. A focused and driven mind set with the capability to deliver high quality specialist technical work and provide leadership as a Technical Authority.
