Job summary

ALTEN seeks a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to deliver advanced electrical systems in a complex programme. The role offers ownership of design activities, influencing project direction, and collaboration across disciplines in a high-integrity environment. Location is Dorset with full on-site presence.

You will lead technical reviews, mentor junior engineers, and ensure compliance with IEC/BS/IEEE standards while supporting cross-functional teams and risk management.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a senior electrical design role within complex or regulated industries.
• Strong knowledge of electrical design tools (EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical) and PLM systems (Teamcenter).
• Experience designing power distribution, control, and embedded electrical systems.
• Understanding of IEC, BS, IEEE standards.
• Able to lead technical reviews and drive decisions.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of design and development of electrical systems for complex projects.
• Produce and review electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Ensure designs meet industry standards, safety regs, and compliance.
• Oversee system integration, verification, and validation.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Collaborate with mechanical, systems, software, and manufacturing teams.
• Support supplier engagement and technical reviews.
• Investigate issues via root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Contribute to project planning, scheduling, and risk management.
