Design Engineer – Electrical Distribution (up to 11kV)

We are supporting a specialist power engineering contractor that delivers turnkey solutions across private networks, DNO/IDNO connections, and utility-scale infrastructure. As their project pipeline grows, they are looking for a skilled Design Engineer to take a lead role in producing safe, compliant, and efficient electrical network designs – primarily at LV and 11kV, with exposure up to 33kV.
This role will suit a detail-driven engineer with a strong technical foundation and a collaborative mindset, keen to deliver innovative and compliant solutions across the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and plan electricity distribution networks (LV to 11kV; up to 33kV exposure)
Perform feasibility studies and assess system design options
Create schematic diagrams, HV routing layouts, wiring diagrams, metering/protection SLDs
Produce earthing studies and associated drawings
Maintain design accuracy including cable entry points and site measurements
Manage design changes in coordination with clients, IDNOs, and civils teams
Provide technical specs for turnkey contracts, protection equipment, and auxiliary systems
Support tendering process and conduct technical reviews
Complete technical reports for capital approval processes
Requirements:
Strong understanding of power distribution design up to 11kV (33kV–132kV exposure is a plus)
Experience with DNO/IDNO design standards, especially G81 or BS7671
Knowledge of CDM requirements and pre-construction risk assessments
Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (City & Guilds accepted)
Proficient in MS Office, Teams, SharePoint, and collaboration tools
Familiar with industry design tools (Amtec, Windebut, etc.)
Strong communication skills and ability to manage technical stakeholders
Previous experience working with or for a DNO/IDNO
Desire to progress towards professional registration (IEng, EngTech, or IET)
