This is a full-time role for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer located in the Greater Glasgow Area. Reporting directly to the Director of Engineering, the Senior Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for the day-to-day tasks and deliverables associated with designing and developing the EPC and/or ICP aspects of grid-scale battery energy storage and solar PV projects on budget and to a high level of quality. This includes managing the delivery of electrical system studies, applying mechanical and electrical engineering principles, and collaborating with cross-functional teams and other project stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
Responsibilities
- Leadership, engineering management and development of electrical engineering designs.
- Lead the development of detailed electrical designs including equipment layouts and specifications, SLDs, schedules, etc.
- Prepare EPC/ICP Sub-Contractor scopes of work and manage subsequent tender evaluation and contract award.
- Lead and provide technical input project during project construction (management of contractors, design reviews, programme monitoring, stakeholder management, etc.).
- Lead and provide technical input to commercial agreements and contracts to ensure project risks are mitigated.
- Effectively manage several renewable energy projects concurrently, according to time and budget constraints.
- Manage and work alongside other professionals in inter-department, multi-disciplinary teams.
- Prepare and review technical reports.
- Support procurement activities for main electrical equipment.
- Review Sub-Contractor designs, reports, etc. for compliance with project requirements.
- Undertake site visits to both new sites and sites under construction.
- Take a lead role in business development activities (in conjunction with Business Development professionals).
- Support Bid Team with tender preparation activities.
Qualifications
- Electrical balance of plant design skills, with exposure to civil and mechanical systems.
- Experience with electrical system modelling software (DigSilent, PSCAD or similar) and the associated system study deliverables (load flow, short circuit, reactive power, energization, cable sizing, etc.).
- Experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software (preferred).
- Experience with MS Project, Excel, Word and Procore
- Knowledge of UK Grid Code and compliance.
- Knowledge of applicable UK design standards and regulations.
- Knowledge of UK network operator standards and regulations.
- Knowledge of CDM Principal Designer and Principal Contractors roles and duties.
- Strong project management/delivery skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
- Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
- Bachelor's degree (minimum) in Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Full driving licence and ability to drive to project site locations UK wide, if necessary
