Job summary

Eden Brown is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join a leading building services consultancy, delivering electrical design for data centres and mission-critical facilities. The role is hybrid, with design from concept through to construction and close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

You will lead electrical packages, coordinate power distribution, standby generation, UPS, lighting and earthing, ensure compliance with UK standards, and mentor junior engineers.

Position: Senior Electrical Design Engineer

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join a well-established building services consultancy, working on a range of technically challenging projects within the data centre and mission-critical sectors.

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly capable electrical building services specialist with a strong consultancy background and proven experience delivering electrical design solutions for data centres or other mission-critical environments.

You will play a key role in the design and delivery of complex projects, taking responsibility for electrical engineering solutions from concept through to detailed design and construction, while working closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients and other project stakeholders.

The role offers hybrid working, providing flexibility while maintaining close collaboration with the wider engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver electrical building services designs for data centre and mission-critical projects.
• Develop electrical design solutions from concept and feasibility through to detailed design, tender and construction stages.
• Produce and review electrical calculations, specifications, technical reports, drawings and design documentation.
• Design and coordinate critical electrical infrastructure, including power distribution, standby generation, UPS systems, lighting, earthing and lightning protection.
• Ensure designs meet relevant UK regulations, industry standards, client requirements and project specifications.
• Work collaboratively with mechanical engineers, BIM teams, project managers, clients, contractors and other design disciplines.
• Undertake design reviews, technical assessments and quality assurance checks to ensure robust and compliant engineering solutions.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, supporting their professional development.
• Attend client meetings, design workshops and project reviews, representing the electrical engineering function.
• Support project delivery by identifying technical risks, resolving design challenges and ensuring engineering deliverables meet agreed programmes.

About You

To be successful in this position, you will be an experienced electrical building services engineer with a strong technical background gained within a building services or multidisciplinary engineering consultancy.

You will ideally have:

• Significant experience in electrical building services design within a consulting engineering environment.
• Proven experience working on data centre or mission-critical projects.
• A strong understanding of critical power systems, resilience, redundancy and electrical infrastructure design.
• Experience delivering electrical designs across multiple project stages, from concept through to construction.
• A good working knowledge of relevant UK electrical standards, regulations and industry best practice.
• Experience using industry design tools and software, such as Amtech, Revit, AutoCAD and electrical calculation packages.
• The ability to manage technical deliverables, coordinate with other disciplines and contribute to project delivery.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage with clients and project stakeholders.
• The ability to work independently, take ownership of design packages and support less experienced engineers.
• A degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering is preferred. Chartered status, or working towards chartership, would be advantageous.
