Job summary

Apex M&E Solutions is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to take ownership of electrical designs from concept through construction. You will work hands-on to develop compliant designs and support project teams on site across varied environments in the UK.

Ideal candidates will have significant UK electrical building services design experience, strong LV design knowledge, and proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit and related tools.

Qualifications

• Significant UK electrical building services design experience with independent ownership.
• Strong knowledge of LV design, cable sizing, protection, and practical installation requirements.
• Good working knowledge of BS 7671 and UK standards.
• Experience drawing and calculating using AutoCAD, Revit, Amtech or similar tools.

Responsibilities

• Develop electrical designs from concept to construction support and handover.
• Survey existing infrastructure and produce calculations, schedules and diagrams.
• Design LV distribution, cabling, containment, earthing and protection coordination.
• Coordinate lighting, BMS interfaces and power supplies for plant.
• Review submissions, coordinate with other trades and resolve RFIs.
• Support estimating, value engineering, and project/site commissioning.

Take technical ownership of electrical designs and stay involved as your work moves from concept to construction.

Apex M&E Solutions is recruiting a Senior Electrical Design Engineer for an established building services contractor strengthening its in-house technical capability. This is a hands-on role for an engineer who can independently develop practical, compliant electrical designs and support the teams delivering them on site.

You will work across commercial, healthcare, education, industrial and retail environments, with involvement from the initial survey and client brief through construction, commissioning and handover. The role brings design decisions close to procurement and installation, giving you the opportunity to solve coordination issues early and see how your designs perform in practice.

What you will do

• Develop electrical designs from concept through detailed design, construction support and as-installed stages.
• Survey existing infrastructure and produce calculations, specifications, schedules, schematics and single-line diagrams.
• Design LV distribution, cabling, containment, earthing and bonding, including voltage-drop, fault-current and protection coordination calculations.
• Design general and emergency lighting and coordinate power supplies, controls and BMS interfaces for mechanical plant.
• Coordinate with mechanical, architectural and structural teams; review technical submissions and resolve RFIs.
• Support estimating and value engineering, then assist project and site teams through commissioning and handover.

What you will bring

• Significant UK electrical building services design experience and the ability to take independent technical ownership.
• Strong commercial LV design knowledge, including cable sizing, protective devices, selectivity and practical installation requirements.
• A strong working knowledge of BS 7671 and relevant UK building services standards.
• Competence with electrical calculation and drawing software, plus experience working with clients, contractors, consultants and site teams.
• Clear technical communication and documentation skills, with a willingness to attend live project sites.
• An electrical or building services degree, HNC or HND, and professional registration or progress towards it, would be welcomed. Experience with Amtech or Trimble, AutoCAD, Revit, DIALux or Relux is advantageous, as is contractor-side experience and knowledge of HVAC, controls and BMS integration.
