Job description

About the Team

Warwickshire’s new SEND and Inclusion Strategy sets out our collective ambition to improve life opportunities and outcomes for children and young people with SEND, by supporting a strong early start, quality education and a positive transition into adulthood.

It is the aim and the vision of Warwickshire County Council that all schools are places where everyone feels valued, included, safe, supported and welcome. We will work together to enable all our children and young people in Warwickshire to lead a fulfilling life and be part of their community.

The ‘Warwickshire School's Inclusion Charter’ sets out what all children and young people and their families should expect from schools in Warwickshire, in line with the SEND Code of Practice.

Meeting the requirements of the Children and Families Act 2014, the strategy is ambitious, inclusive, and realistic in the challenging financial context seen nationally amongst local authorities and the NHS.

Through our ongoing commitment to be a Child-Friendly County, we have prioritised resources to address growing demands across the EHC Needs Assessment and EHCP Review processes, to enable timely action and decision-making, which in turn impacts on positive outcomes for our children and young people and their families.

We are therefore looking for ambitious, dedicated and solution-focused practitioners to join our hard-working and collaborative SENDAR (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Assessment and Review) team. As a local authority, we can offer you:

  • an Agile Working policy,
  • a generous Annual Leave entitlement,
  • car lease and cycle to work schemes,
  • a range of additional staff benefits.

In addition, SENDAR will also provide supportive supervision, dedicated business support and a robust induction.

About the role

You will join our existing team of Area Leads who line manage a smaller team of EHC Plan Coordinators and Assistant Plan Coordinators, and will report to one of the two Delivery Leads. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to the strategic and operational management of the SENDAR service ensuring compliance with the Children & Families Act 2014, the SEN CoP, and the Equality Act 2010.
  • Line management, supervision and appraisal of a team of SENDAR EHC Plan Coordinators and Assistant EHC Plan Coordinators, promoting professional development and performance management and enabling staff to prioritise and execute their work effectively.
  • Chairing and participating in statutory decision-making processes, and lead on ongoing reviews of these.
  • Oversight and monitoring of work across the Team and supporting colleagues, particularly in complex and challenging situations.
  • Managing, mediating and arbitrating in situations where problems or conflict has arisen and ensuring that all communications are timely, clear and considerate.

Key Requirements

You will have at least 5 years’ experience in a Local Authority SEND Team or direct experience supporting SEND in an educational setting, health or social care role. You will be an excellent communicator and role model, adapting your communication style to ensure clarity and instilling trust and confidence in our support to families, carers, children and young people in Warwickshire. You will be skilled in managing a number of conflicting priorities that may provide professional challenge, and making informed decisions that promote best outcomes from available resources.
