About the Role

The position involves building close relationships with research communities to offer personalized services to authors and ensuring the publication of high-quality content. The role also includes significant community engagement and political activities to leverage change, reflecting a commitment to scientific excellence and societal impact. The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues to refine manuscripts and adhere to quality standards, maintaining the high editorial and production standards of The Lancet Microbe.

Responsibilities
  • Developing and maintaining links with the international medical microbiology and infectious diseases communities, and scanning current literature to identify suitable material and authors for the journal.
  • Organising peer review of articles and other materials, and negotiating with authors.
  • Writing editorials, news items, and other content for the journal or website.
  • Sub-editing material to improve clarity and conform to journal style and space limits.
  • Checking galley proofs and cross-reading journal pages, both in print and online.
  • Attending conferences and events to represent the journal, identify suitable topics and authors, and stay updated on current developments.
  • Checking monthly website updates and selecting material for the homepage.
  • Assisting with press releases as needed.
Requirements
  • Ability to work in a team and meet strict deadlines.
  • Negotiation skills with medical professionals, media, and editors.
  • Knowledge of biological and medical sciences.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office and editing software.
  • Editorial experience at Senior or Assistant Editor level preferred.
  • Relevant writing experience.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Familiarity with IT systems, databases, and publishing software.
