Job summary

PLOS is seeking a Senior Editor, Publication Ethics to investigate and resolve ethics cases across all journals, support journal teams, and contribute to initiatives on integrity and open access. This role is fully remote for candidates in the UK and select US states, with responsibilities spanning manuscript handling, peer review, and post-publication issues.

Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in a scientific discipline and editorial/ethics experience in STM publishing.
• Experience resolving publication ethics cases and critical evaluation of scientific articles.
• Familiarity with COPE standards and guidance; preference for image forensics exposure.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and resolve publication ethics cases for all PLOS journals.
• Provide ethics support to journal teams and contribute to team initiatives.
• Contribute to cross-functional projects on ethics and integrity.
• Support staff editors during manuscript handling, peer review, or post-publication.
• Communicate ethics cases promptly to stakeholders including Editorial Board and authors.
• Contribute to internal discussions on publication ethics and research integrity.
• Attend COPE Forums within working hours and assist in onboarding new staff.
