As part of the Economic Analysis (EA) team you will be at the forefront of any exercise undertaken at the bank. All exercises including IFRS 9, stress testing, and planning start with the macro-economic and retail financial market forecasts. You will be responsible for providing economic analysis, forecasts and commentary on the UK economy for Senior Management, assisting them in their decision making process and ensuring that we are helping customers to make their better happen.

Each member of the team is responsible for particular areas of the macro-economic and retail financial market forecasts. This gives you the opportunity to develop your skills and demonstrate your knowledge in these areas both internally and externally. You will be part of a team that is always looking for improvements – both analytical and practical to ensure that we provide the best service possible to our customers.

The difference you’ll make:

As part of the EA team you will contribute to providing economic and market analysis which helps support the management of the balance sheet, the company’s participation in retail and corporate banking markets and the management of risk. In EA we help inform strategy, market size and share market views. We work closely with Economists across the Global bank and particularly in Madrid support them with the Group’s external communications and planning. The team also represent Santander through external publications and presentations.

The most important day-to-day activities include:

  • Providing macroeconomic and retail financial market forecasts of the UK economy for Planning and Stress Testing purposes including IFRS 9 and Climate to teams in San UK;

  • Supporting with the preparation of presentations for Asset & Liability Committee (ALCO), Board and other internal meetings;

  • Preparing monthly information packs on macro-economic and retail financial market data including reports for CCB for publication;

  • Assisting senior management and teams with requests for economic information, insight and analysis and preparing comms on this;

  • Looking for and analysing economic trends including in specific areas of responsibility;

  • Developing econometric models to aid understanding and provide further insight.

What you’ll bring:

  • An upper second degree level in Economics

  • Proven experience of between 3-5 years in applying economic analysis with knowledge of the UK economy and of UK retail financial markets (eg housing market)

  • Excellent analytical skills, especially in statistics and econometrics

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

It would also be nice for you to have:

  • Experience of working with macroeconomic models

  • Experience in using applied econometrics in a business setting

  • Experience of presenting to senior stakeholders or to external stakeholders

  • This role is based in London

To support this, we offer site-based contracts with a hybrid working pattern and our expected level of attendance in an office is at least 12 days per month (pro-rata for part-time roles).

  • Eligible for a discretionary performance-related annual bonus.
