Job description

Senior Ecommerce Specialist

We’re looking for a Senior Ecommerce Specialist to lead the charge on complex, high-impact Shopify Plus builds. You’ll translate bold ideas into bulletproof architecture — blending technical expertise, ecommerce insight, and commercial strategy to shape scalable solutions that drive real business value.

About Swanky

Swanky is a leading international Shopify Plus agency, trusted by brands like HelloFresh, Huel, Wilkinson Sword, and Newcastle United Football Club (NUFC) to deliver high-performance ecommerce experiences. As one of the original Shopify Plus Partners — and one of only a handful globally to achieve Platinum Partner status — we’re recognised by Shopify for our proven expertise in delivering complex, high-impact solutions at scale.

We don’t just build stores. We architect digital experiences that drive growth — blending creative UX, robust development, and commercial strategy to help exciting brands thrive on Shopify Plus.

About the Role

As a Senior Ecommerce Specialist at Swanky, you’ll take the lead in shaping the technical strategy for some of our most exciting and complex Shopify Plus builds. From the outset, you'll run discovery workshops to uncover business goals, user needs, and technical requirements, helping clients articulate their vision and translating it into a clear, achievable plan.

You’ll design scalable, future-ready solutions that strike the right balance between performance, flexibility, and commercial value. Your technical specifications and documentation will serve as the foundation for seamless, high-quality delivery by our wider team.

Working closely with clients, you’ll advise on best practices, integrations, and growth opportunities — bringing not just platform expertise but a deep understanding of ecommerce and commercial strategy. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally across project managers, designers, and developers to ensure alignment between solution design and delivery.

You’ll also be responsible for identifying potential risks early, navigating technical challenges with confidence, and constantly driving innovation in how we approach solutions at Swanky.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the Solutions Lead during discovery and planning for new Shopify Plus builds and migrations, laying the foundation for successful delivery.
  • Translate complex client requirements into clear, scalable technical specifications and robust solution architectures.
  • Lead technical scoping sessions, mapping out needs based on commercial strategy and client KPIs — including integrations, product structure, customer journeys, internationalisation, platform configurations, and system dependencies.
  • Advise clients on best practices across Shopify Plus, APIs, and the third-party app ecosystem— working closely with the Technical Lead to ensure scalable, future-ready builds.
  • Collaborate with tech leads and creative leads to maintain alignment between solution, design and technical execution throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Create detailed scopes with accurate estimates and supporting technical documentation for all proposed solutions.
  • Stay up to date on Shopify features, platform changes, and broader ecommerce trends, feeding relevant insights into Swanky’s delivery strategy.
  • Identify and communicate risks early in the discovery and project phases, offering pragmatic, commercially sound solutions.
  • Contribute to internal documentation, knowledge sharing, and the continuous improvement of Swanky’s solutions offering.

Requirements

  • 3+ years in a Solutions Engineer, Solution Specialist, Ecommerce Specialist, Product Owner, Ecommerce/Technical Consultant, or similar ecommerce role.
  • Deep knowledge of Shopify Plus and supporting ecommerce infrastructure.
  • Proven experience translating complex requirements into elegant, scalable solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence engaging with clients and senior stakeholders.
  • A strategic, commercial mindset with a genuine passion for solving complex problems.
  • Meticulous approach to documentation, architectural clarity, and delivery excellence.

Desired Skills

  • Hands-on experience with Shopify Plus builds or migrations.
  • Understanding of headless commerce or composable architectures.
  • Familiarity with ecommerce systems such as ERPs, CRMs, PIMs, and fulfilment platforms.
  • Technical certifications (e.g. Shopify, Salesforce, AWS) are a strong plus.
  • Experience working in fast-paced agencies, digital or Ecommerce consultancies.

Benefits

We invest in our team and aim to assist in growing and nurturing your skills.

  • Salary is Competitive depending on experience
  • 30 days holiday per year, inclusive of bank holidays, plus 1 additional day per full year served, capped at 5
  • Flexible working hours during the day
  • Beautiful Exeter-based offices for those based in the South-West of the UK (but this can be a fully-remote role for the right candidate)
  • Employee Assistant Programme with 24/7 access to services
  • Free unlimited tea, hot chocolate, coffee and healthy snack bar (in the office)
  • MacBook Pro (or your preferred choice of tech)
  • Working with dynamic, creative and growing clients on fun, challenging and often high-profile projects
  • Opportunity for occasional travel to client meetings and conferences
  • Be part of an inspiring, growing, highly collaborative and ambitious team, with opportunities to progress
  • Regular company socials and events
