Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an experienced ecologist to support nationally important infrastructure projects across the UK. You will undertake field surveys, analyse results and author a range of ecological reports and licence applications.

The role offers flexible, hybrid working across the UK, mentoring towards Chartership, and opportunities to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team on exciting environmental projects within a supportive culture.

Qualifications

• Full Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or actively working towards this.
• Strong skills in report writing, including Preliminary Ecological Assessments and Biodiversity Chapters.
• Strong knowledge of UK Habitat surveys, habitat condition assessments, and the Defra Biodiversity Metric.
• Knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain legislation, policy and methods, and wildlife legislation.
• Ability to undertake Biodiversity Net Gain assessments including feasibility and baseline assessments.
• Experience authoring Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans (HMMPs).
• Strong botanical skills, Field Identification Skills Certificate (FISC) level 4 preferred.
• Project management experience including technical, financial and QA aspects.

Responsibilities

• Client facing interactions – understand and capture clients' requirements.
• Support on nationally important infrastructure projects, manage programmes and budgets.
• Plan and undertake field surveys; analyse and interpret results.
• Design and coordinate ecological mitigation.
• Author and check ecological reports and licence applications.
• Engage with other business areas to cross-sell AtkinsRéalis' capabilities and drive work-winning in the region.
• Provide innovation within the ecology team and mentoring to colleagues.
