The Role – Senior Ecologist:
As a Senior Ecologist, you’ll be the go-to expert for leading your own projects. Your role will involve:
- Conducting a variety of ecological surveys, including protected species surveys and habitat assessments (UKHab).
- Preparing comprehensive ecological reports, such as Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments.
- Specialising in Ornithology—scoping and undertaking breeding and non-breeding bird surveys for large sites.
- Advising clients on ecological constraints, opportunities, and mitigation strategies.
- Collaborating with landscape planning and arboriculture teams to deliver integrated project solutions.
- Supporting the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and planning applications.
- Liaising with clients, regulators, and stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery.
- Contributing to fee proposals and tender documents.
- Having a minimum of 2 years’ experience in ecological consultancy or equivalent.
- Possessing strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policies.
- Having proven experience in conducting and leading ecological surveys.
- Having working knowledge of UKHab survey techniques and statutory BNG.
- Desired experience with GIS to produce highly accurate digital outputs (QGIS).
- Exhibiting excellent report-writing skills with attention to detail.
- Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or working towards it.
- Possessing strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
- Holding a full UK driving license and willingness to travel to project sites.
