Job summary

Carrington West is seeking a highly motivated Senior Ecologist to join the expanding Ecology Division. The role is based in Manchester with UK-wide project delivery, offering a collaborative, supportive environment where your expertise helps shape development schemes.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or higher in ecology or related field.
  • Full member of CIEEM or eligible to join.
  • Experience delivering ecological consultancy projects.
  • Proven project management track record.
  • Botanical skills at least FISC level 4 desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct ecological surveys including Phase 1 and protected species surveys.
  • Prepare reports (PEA, EcIA, biodiversity metrics, HRA, management plans) to high standard.
  • Quality control across the team.
  • Obtain Natural England licenses and implement mitigation.
  • Mentor junior team members and manage projects.
  • Engage with clients and win new work; represent the company at events.

To contribute to the growth, they are expanding the ecology team, and are searching for a Senior Ecologist to support on project delivery.

As a member of the Ecology Division you will be required to undertake a combination of office and site-based work, supporting UK-wide delivery of development schemes for a range of public and private sector Clients. Job Description

I am looking for a highly ambitious, self-governing individual to join their team to provide high quality ecological services.

You would work out of the Manchester office, however would be expected to work throughout the UK on a variety of projects.

The successful individual will be able to:

  • Undertake Ecological surveys, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (Phase 1 Habitat Survey/ UKHab) and Protected Species Surveys on complex sites, in line with appropriate guidance.
  • Independently produce a variety of ecological reports including PEA, EcIA, protected species reports, biodiversity metric calculations, HRA screening assessments, management plans and method statements to a high standard and in line with best practice guidance.
  • Quality control reports ensuring a high standard of work across the team.
  • Obtain Natural England Licences (bats and/or water vole is desirable) and be able to undertake and implement appropriate mitigation.
  • Undertake management responsibilities in line with company structure. Act as mentor for Junior members of the team.
  • Manage projects and advise clients appropriately at all stages of the planning process.
  • Work alongside the other disciplines.
  • Represent the company at networking events and industry social events.
  • Develop relationships with clients, as well as win new work for the company.
Qualifications and experience required include:
  • Relevant undergraduate degree or higher.
  • Full member of CIEEM (or be in a position to obtain).
  • Experience working within consultancy is essential.
  • Proven track record of successful delivery of projects, including examples of project management.
  • Botanical skills equivalent to a FISC level 4 or above would be highly desirable.

In addition to the above, Senior Ecologists will:

  • Act as a licensed ecologist on European Protected Species Licenses
  • Actively pursue new avenues of work.
  • Be a technical expert in their specialty.
  • Archive FISC assessment level 4 or higher.
  • Work as part of the wider company to bring forward new initiatives.
