Job description

Job Description

Tired of box-ticking consultancy work? Ready to do ecology properly? Here's what's on offer:

  • £35,000-£45,000 salary, depending on experience
  • Ecology embedded at the heart of design, not added on at the end
  • A collaborative, design-led studio where your voice matters
  • Flexibility, support, and autonomy
  • Meaningful projects that tackle climate and biodiversity challenges
  • A real opportunity to help shape and grow an internal ecology team

A leading landscape and engineering studio in Chester is looking for a Senior Ecologist to help redefine how ecology is delivered across its projects. From public realm and destination schemes to housing and education, you'll work closely with landscape architects and engineers to create better places - environmentally and socially.

What you'll be doing:

  1. Leading surveys, reporting, and planning input (fieldwork is still part of the job)
  2. Helping win work and developing the ecology offer from within
  3. Ensuring legal compliance and ecological quality
  4. Delivering Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG)
  5. Working in a genuinely collaborative environment

What you'll need:

  • Solid experience in ecological consultancy
  • At least one protected species licence
  • Strong grasp of legislation, survey methods, and reporting
  • CIEEM or CIWEM membership
  • A practical mindset, clear communication skills, and your own vehicle
