Senior Ecologist - £30,000 + dependent on experience

Futures Ecology is a small, friendly consultancy established in 2019 with offices in Leeds and Bolsover.

We are seeking a Senior Ecologist based at our Leeds office. The ideal candidate will specialise in at least one of the following areas: badgers, bats (including tree climbing), botany, or ornithology. They should also be a licence holder or named ecologist for surveys or mitigation works, with a minimum of four years of consultancy experience.

Skills/Qualifications
  • A degree in Ecology (or related subject) or equivalent experience
  • Full, clean driving licence with business use on insurance and access to own transport
  • CIEEM Membership, minimum of Associate, ideally Full Membership or above
  • Holder of protected species survey licences or equivalent experience (e.g., FISC 4)
  • Holder of a mitigation licence such as Bat Mitigation Class Licence (BMCL)
  • Proficiency in QGIS/QFIELD/other GIS software
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility to meet business needs, including irregular hours and travel
  • Good organisational skills, proactive attitude, high motivation
Key Responsibilities
  1. Project management
  2. Liaising with clients, statutory bodies, and stakeholders
  3. Preparing and winning tenders/fee proposals
  4. Leading protected species and habitat surveys
  5. Mentoring junior staff members
  6. Writing and quality assuring reports
  7. Providing expert advice and staying updated on legislation and planning systems
  8. Finding innovative solutions proactively
  9. Working flexibly, including irregular hours for survey requirements (at least one evening survey per week between April and September)
