Job description

Senior Ecologist
Location: Leeds (Hybrid - Remote with 1-2 days in the office)

A leading environmental consultancy is seeking a Senior Ecologist to play a pivotal role in delivering innovative and sustainable ecological solutions. Dedicated to balancing development with conservation, this company supports clients across multiple sectors, ensuring compliance with ecological regulations while driving positive environmental change.

The Role

As a Senior Ecologist, you'll lead key projects, offering expert guidance on ecological best practices. From habitat surveys to Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) consultancy, your work will shape the future of sustainable development.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead and manage ecological surveys, habitat assessments, and mitigation strategies.
  2. Produce high-quality reports, including PEAs and EcIAs.
  3. Advise clients, contractors, and stakeholders on ecological regulations.
  4. Mentor junior team members, fostering growth and expertise.
  5. Build and maintain strong client relationships.

What You'll Need:
  1. Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or related field.
  2. Minimum four years of experience in ecological consultancy.
  3. Expertise in UK ecological legislation, habitat surveys, and protected species assessments.
  4. Strong technical report writing skills (CIEEM standards).
  5. Ideally, Bat and/or GCN Natural England licences.
  6. Full UK driving licence.
  7. CIEEM membership (or working towards it).
