Job description

Senior ECC Veterinary Nurse - Surrey

  • Step into a key leadership role within a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital, offering a blend of fascinating heritage and modern ECC excellence.
  • Take charge of the ECC and hospital nursing function, working alongside a top tier clinical team to deliver gold standard patient care every day.
  • Enjoy the opportunity to mentor and train future veterinary nurses, with dedicated time for development and clinical coaching in a supportive environment.
  • Earn a competitive salary of £30,000 – £35,000 per annum DOE, plus a generous benefits package, all while thriving in a high-paced, rewarding hospital setting.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and experienced Senior Nurse to join a renowned veterinary hospital in Surrey. With roots tracing back to the early 1890s, this practice has a rich and fascinating history. A major refurbishment in 2015 followed by an extension in 2016 transformed the building into a fully equipped veterinary hospital, blending heritage with cutting edge facilities. Today, the hospital stands as a centre of excellence, offering world class general practice, primary care, 24-hour emergency services, and specialist veterinary care.

This role is pivotal within the hospital, with a key aim of leading the Emergency and Critical Care (ECC)/Hospital function to ensure gold standard care for both patients and clients. Working alongside a supportive clinical operations team and Lead Hospital Vet, the successful candidate will take responsibility for all aspects of ECC nursing, driving clinical standards, team development, and operational excellence.

The Senior Nurse will lead by example, conducting high level inpatient care, overseeing recovery and discharge processes, setting up and assisting with diagnostic workups, and running a full suite of in-house lab diagnostics. This position will also involve managing stock control, maintaining equipment logs, and ensuring best practices for controlled drug handling. Training and development of the ECC team will be a key focus—both formally through meetings and informally day-to-day—and includes supporting apprenticeship nurses and acting as a designated clinical coach.

Applicants must demonstrate strong clinical skills, especially in diagnostics and inpatient care, as well as proven leadership ability with a genuine enthusiasm for mentoring and managing nursing teams. Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment are essential.

For a driven and proactive RVN who thrives in an ECC and hospital setting, this is a unique opportunity to step into a leadership role at one of the most respected veterinary hospitals, working alongside a dedicated and expert team to truly make a difference.

Benefits

  • Salary from £30,000 - £35,000 per annum
  • Great training and career progression opportunities
  • Growing benefit package with generous annual leave and professional development budgets
  • Great team spirit and regular team meet-ups
  • Well maintained workplaces with great facilities for pets and people
  • Plus much more!
