Job Overview
To work as part of the Nursery staff as a senior member of the team. To provide high-quality, stimulating childcare and early education for children of NHS staff, enabling parents to return to work and thereby supporting the Trust’s Improving Working Lives initiative.
Main duties of the job
- NNEB/NVQ in Childcare and Early Education at Level 3 or equivalent.
- To have good knowledge and understanding of the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage
- To have at least 3 years post-qualified experience and for at least 1 year of that experience to have been in a Day Nursery setting.
- To have good communication skills essential for teamwork and passing on information to other staff when they are in charge.
- To have the confidence and initiative to take charge of the Nursery in the event of the Manager and Deputy not being present.
- To establish and maintain relationships within the staffing team, especially the staff within the unit they are senior in; with parents and children – especially their key children.
- To have effective writing skills, enabling completion of children’s written assessments and other paperwork. Also being able to check staff’s assessment before being presented to parents.
- To have the imaginative skills to lead a planning meeting and contribute ideas for children’s activities, topics and themes.
- To have the ability to engage children’s interests and help other staff to do this, whilst encouraging children’s learning through play.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
To provide a safe, stimulating environment to encourage children to learn through play and reach their full potential and encouraging other staff to do this.
To ensure the Ofsted requirements are being met and all other nursery and NBT
policies are being adhered to.
To work closely with parents, especially those of their key children to ensure good
relationships are maintained and all relevant information is shared between both
parties.
To work as a senior member of the staffing team, usually in charge of either the pre-school room or the under 3’s as a whole. Therefore working in one of these areas but being flexible about helping out in other areas and in the event of an emergency, working at another location within NBT
To be able to give guidance, support and advice to all less-qualified staff and students – ensuring all staff and students are working professionally and that their working practices are to a high standard, as set by Ofsted.
To promote equal opportunities within the nursery and to encourage other staff, to ensure that a culturally-sensitive environment is maintained.
To attend parents’ evenings to provide parents with their child’s progress and developmental files and discuss any issues they feel relevant.
To attend and contribute to staff meetings on a regular basis

To implement and follow the Childcare Services policies and procedures as well as N. Bristol Trust’s
To attend staff appraisals where performing and training needs are monitored
To be aware of data protection and the importance of confidentiality.
To contribute work towards Bristol Standards or For One Child and All – accreditation programmes

Shortlisting criteria
Essential criteria
- NNEB/DCE/NVQ level3/BTEC in Childcare
- To have had at least 2 years post-qualifying experience and for one of that to have been within a day nursery setting
- To have had some experience with curriculum planning and the Early Learning Goals Experience of working within the NHS
- Proven leadership skills
- Knowledge and understanding statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Coordination of record keeping and curriculum planning
- To show confidence and initiative in leading a staff team
- Ability to work under pressure and to remain calm
- Approachable and caring personality
