Job description

Job Description

Working within Perth & Kinross Council is more than a job; it's about being part of an organisation that puts people at the heart of all we do and provides opportunities to make a real difference by enhancing every life we touch.

We currently have the following opportunity:

Senior Early Childhood Practitioner - PKC12920
£33,261 - £36,508
Errol Primary School

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Early Childhood Practitioner based at Errol Primary School Nursery. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual to progress in Early Learning and Childcare.

Errol Primary School and Nursery serves the vibrant community of Errol village and its surrounding areas, known for their rich farmland and natural beauty. Everyone working at Errol Primary School and Nursery works together to create a welcoming, happy, and inclusive environment where all children are valued. We pride ourselves on our attractive nursery setting, which also offers lots of outdoor space in our own nursery garden.

The successful candidate will be contracted to work 36 hours over 45 weeks of the year. The post is permanent, with Perth and Kinross Council, and based at Errol Primary School.

Candidates will be responsible for supporting and motivating a small team, ensuring children have access to high-quality learning experiences that are responsive to children's needs and interests.

45-week settings are closed 2 weeks at Christmas and remain open the 1st week of October, 1st week of Easter, and the first 3 weeks of summer (and for some public and occasional holidays). SECPs working in 45-week settings may be required to work alternating shift patterns to meet the needs of the setting's operational hours, in agreement with their line manager.

You will assist in the organisation and management of the service for the benefit of all children, families, and the wider community.

The Senior ECP role directly contributes and supports colleagues in developing a flexible childcare and early education service, which is appropriate to the needs of young children and their families. This involves working in partnership with the surrounding community, within the context of both local authority and nursery policies and procedures.

Requirements

You must be able to work on your own initiative as well as an effective team member.

You will be able to think 'on your feet' and enjoy a varied role taking a lead in the organisation and management of a happy, busy nursery, putting children's needs first.

You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with children, families, and colleagues alike.

As a Senior ECP, you will have a wide range of experience in nursery education and be ready to act as a lead practitioner to support learners and staff in a manner that brings out the best in all.

You must have SNNB/HNC/SVQ 3 in Childcare/Education or equivalent and be able to evidence additional studies, e.g., PDA or modules from a relevant degree, and have a commitment to work towards a qualification to register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as a Lead Practitioner, e.g., BA Childhood Practice within SSSC timescales.

You must also have previous experience working as an Early Childhood Practitioner in a nursery setting.

Responsibilities

Our values and behaviours influence our work and support us in delivering our key priorities. In your application, and if invited for an interview, you will be asked to describe situations that demonstrate the required criteria and how they align with our values and behaviours.

Here's what we can offer you:

  • A generous annual leave package
  • 6 days public holiday and an additional discretionary day
  • Eligibility to join our pension scheme
  • Family-friendly and positive work/life balance policies such as Flexible Working, Maternity, Paternity & Adoption leave, time off for volunteering, and our Wellbeing Framework
  • Access to a range of benefits
  • Paid SSSC annual membership for relevant positions

We support flexible working where possible; discuss options with the recruiting manager. We value a healthy work-life balance and provide supportive management and flexible arrangements to help you achieve it. Training and support for continued professional development are also available.

This role requires registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). If not yet registered, you can still apply, as long as you are willing to apply within 3 months of starting and register within 6 months.
