Job summary

DEPT is seeking a Senior Python Developer (Django, Wagtail) to join our Dublin-based hybrid team. You will design, build, and maintain robust APIs, own end-to-end delivery, and collaborate with front-end developers, designers, and external partners.

You will mentor junior colleagues, drive architecture decisions, and uphold high-quality standards while contributing to process improvements and adopting modern development workflows. English proficiency is essential.

Qualifications

• a minimum of 4 years of Python backend web development experience (agency or product environment preferred)
• Strong experience with Django
• Experience with Wagtail CMS (or similar CMS platforms) is a plus
• Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining robust, scalable APIs consumed by multiple third parties
• Experience with complex system integrations across multiple external vendors
• Experience with Git and modern development workflows
• Solid understanding of database design, optimisation, and administration
• Strong experience with testing and quality assurance (unit, integration, etc.)
• Ability to own projects end‑to‑end, from planning through to delivery and support
• Experience identifying issues early and proactively suggesting improvements to internal processes and workflows
• Confidence to challenge assumptions, contribute to technical discussions, and collaborate with external teams and vendors
• Experience mentoring junior and mid‑level developers, providing guidance, code reviews, and technical leadership across projects
• A team‑player mindset with strong initiative and leadership qualities
• Working proficiency in English

Responsibilities

• Own projects from concept to delivery, proactively identifying risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement early in the process.
• Shaping architecture, improving internal processes, and ensuring high‑quality standards across all deliverables.
• Mentor junior and mid‑level developers, supporting growth while fostering a collaborative and high‑performing team environment.
• Collaborate with front‑end developers, designers, and external partners in integrated sprint teams to deliver exceptional digital products.
• Explain complex technical decisions in clear, accessible language to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
