As a Senior Director of Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase within the Infrastructure Platforms (IP) team, you lead multiple technical areas, directing the activities of multiple groups, and collaborate across technical domains. Your expertise is applied cross-functionally to drive the adoption and implementation of technical methods within various teams and aid the firm in remaining at the forefront of industry trends, best practices, and technological advances.

This role is for a senior engineer to help define and drive our engineering working practices and standards for engineering across Infrastructure Platforms (IP), an engineering group with over 5000 engineers delivering software and infrastructure to our partners and customers. Reporting to the Head of Engineering Practices for IP, you'll be key to leading transformation in our engineering function so that we are truly world class in quality and execution.

Job responsibilities
  • Defines and leads multiple technology and process implementations across groups to achieve firmwide technology objectives, working in a matrix model
  • Directs multiple areas with strategic transactional focus, influencing across peers to align and execute
  • Establishes strategic goals and the detailed plans for platform, service, and product development, balancing big-picture vision with ground-level execution to identify opportunities and drive change
  • Engages practically with the technical nuances of building infrastructure systems, agile engineering processes (e.g., Coding Standards, Definition of Done, Design Processes, Agile PTX), and controls and standards for technology development across Infrastructure Platforms (IP)
  • Provides leadership and high-level direction to teams across our line of business
  • Acts as the primary interface with senior leaders, stakeholders, and executives, driving consensus across competing objectives
  • Manages multiple stakeholders, complex projects, and large cross-product collaborations
  • Works closely with the IP-wide Engineering Practices leads, architecture team, and risk partners to deliver compliant, business-enabling solutions
  • Influences peer leaders and senior stakeholders across business, product, and technology teams
  • Drives change at scale, focusing on outcomes and fostering a culture of continuous improvement
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
  • Formal training or certification in Software Engineering concepts and extensive applied experience
  • Recent hands-on coding experience in any IDE, with deep expertise in code development
  • Experience with AI coding tools and large language models (LLMs)
  • Experience leading large or cross-functional teams of technologists and managing senior relationships
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, AWS, and Kubernetes platforms
  • Proficiency with CI/CD tools, especially the JPMC Developer toolchain (JET)
  • Proven ability to influence in highly matrixed, complex organizations and deliver value at scale
  • Experience in system design, testing, operational stability, and leading complex projects
  • Experience in hiring, developing, and recognizing talent
  • Extensive practical cloud experience
  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with financial services controls and standards would be advantageous
