Help shape the decisions that move innovation forward

Bringing innovative medicines to patients requires scientific ambition, sound legal judgment and a clear understanding of the healthcare environment.

At Incyte, we are seeking an experienced legal and compliance leader to advise our business across the UK and Nordics. You will help leadership teams pursue business objectives while managing legal risk and meeting applicable legal, regulatory and compliance requirements.

As Director / Senior Director, Law & Compliance, North Europe, you will be a member of the UK and Nordics Leadership Teams and the International Law and Compliance team. You will work directly with General Managers and functional leaders, providing advice on business strategy, product launches, market access, commercial operations and external stakeholder engagement.

Based in the United Kingdom, you will report to the Vice President, Head of Legal International, with a dotted reporting line to the UK General Manager. Appointment at Director or Senior Director level will reflect your relevant experience and demonstrated leadership capability.

Your responsibilities
Strategic legal advice and business partnership
  • Serve as the principal legal and compliance adviser to the UK and Nordics Leadership Teams, providing clear analysis and recommendations on significant business matters.
  • Contribute to business planning from an early stage, identifying legal risks, assessing available options and recommending practical, proportionate solutions.
  • Advise Commercial, Medical Affairs, Market Access, Regulatory, HR and External Affairs on activities within the region.
  • Act as the first point of contact for legal, privacy and compliance matters, coordinating with relevant internal specialists and external counsel and escalating matters as appropriate.
  • Participate in relevant internal committees and represent Incyte in industry association groups, as requested.
  • Contribute to International and global legal, compliance and business projects as required.
Competition law and antitrust
  • Advise on competition law / antitrust considerations relevant to commercial strategies, market access arrangements, public tenders and contractual relationships.
  • Assess competition risks associated with interactions with competitors, participation in trade associations and the exchange of commercially sensitive information.
  • Provide clear guidance and practical training to help employees identify competition law issues and seek appropriate advice.
  • Coordinate with specialist counsel on complex or jurisdiction-specific matters and translate their advice into actionable recommendations.
Healthcare compliance and stakeholder engagement
  • Advise on interactions with healthcare professionals, healthcare institutions, patients, patient organizations, payors, regulatory authorities and government officials.
  • Review promotional materials, sales training materials, product and disease communications, non-promotional education activities and external communications for compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Advise on patient engagement initiatives and other healthcare activities, taking account of applicable laws, regulations, industry codes and internal policies.
  • Provide guidance on anti-bribery and anti-corruption requirements and on data protection and privacy matters.
  • Develop and deliver training tailored to the legal and compliance risks relevant to the business.
Commercial agreements and operational legal support
  • Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements across the product lifecycle, including agreements supporting public tenders and local operations.
  • Provide legal support for product launches, regulatory and clinical activities, employment matters and external affairs initiatives.
  • Advise on the authorizations, permits and licenses required for local operations, in collaboration with the responsible functions.
  • Conduct or support legal and compliance risk assessments and investigations, as required.
  • Manage pre-litigation matters, disputes and litigation in coordination with internal stakeholders and external counsel.
  • Monitor relevant changes in legislation, regulatory requirements and case law, assess their implications and recommend appropriate action.
  • Select, instruct and oversee external counsel, ensuring the quality, timeliness and cost-effectiveness of their advice.
  • Improve legal processes and ways of working to support consistent and efficient advice across the region.
Your qualifications and experience

You bring strong legal expertise, commercial understanding and the judgment to advise senior leaders in a regulated industry.

We are looking for:

  • A recognized legal qualification and qualification to practice law in England and Wales.
  • Significant post-qualification experience gained in-house and/or in private practice, including substantial experience advising the life sciences industry and senior business leaders in the UK.
  • Strong competition law / antitrust expertise, including practical experience advising on commercial conduct and business arrangements.
  • Experience advising on healthcare compliance, including interactions with healthcare professionals, market access stakeholders and government officials.
  • Broad legal experience relevant to product launches, market access, commercial contracts, regulatory and clinical activities, advertising, employment, data protection and anti-corruption.
  • Experience working across jurisdictions and within an international organization. Experience in the Nordic markets would be an advantage.
  • The ability to communicate complex legal issues clearly, distinguish legal requirements from business considerations and provide well-reasoned recommendations.
  • Fluency in English. Additional languages would be an advantage.
Your approach

You build trust through clear advice, an understanding of business priorities and consistent professional judgment. You identify issues early and help colleagues understand their options and the associated risks.

You combine strategic perspective with hands-on delivery. You are comfortable working through uncertainty, managing competing priorities and taking ownership of matters within your remit.

You exercise independent judgment, challenge constructively and elevate concerns when appropriate. Your advice reflects integrity, respect for others and a commitment to responsible business conduct.

Why join Incyte?

This role offers direct involvement in leadership decisions across the UK and Nordics, a broad legal and compliance remit, and close collaboration with our International Law and Compliance team.

You will help shape business strategy, strengthen decision-making and support the work required to bring innovative medicines to patients.

Bring your expertise and judgment to help shape Incyte's next chapter in North Europe.
