Job description

The Bar Council

The Bar Council is the professional membership body for barristers in England and Wales and discharges its regulatory functions through the independent Bar Standards Board.

  • Senior Digital Content Officer
  • High Holborn, London (hybrid working – at least two days per week in the office)
  • £49,493
  • Full time (35 hours per week)

The Bar Council is the voice of the barrister profession in England and Wales. We lead, represent and support the Bar in the public interest, championing the rule of law and access to justice. Our nearly 18,000 members – self-employed and employed barristers – make up a united Bar that aims to be strong, inclusive, independent and influential.

As the General Council of the Bar, we’re the approved regulator for all practising barristers in England and Wales. We delegate our statutory regulatory functions to the operationally independent Bar Standards Board (BSB) as required by the Legal Services Act 2007.

The Senior Digital Content Officer is a new role in our busy communications and marketing team. The role holder will lead on the creation, management and amplification of high-quality and engaging digital content to engage our members and stakeholders. You will be responsible for ensuring content is accurate, accessible and aligned with our priorities and you will lead on delivering our social media strategy.

The role involves writing, editing, proofreading, designing and commissioning to bring our policy, programmes and services to life. You will collaborate with colleagues from across the organisation – including policy, research, events and services – and key external stakeholders to develop new content to promote our work.

The successful candidate will have experience in digital content creation for a range of channels, experience of copywriting and editing to a high standard, and excellent skills in design and project management. We’re also looking for someone who can demonstrate creative thinking and collaboration.

In return we offer excellent terms and conditions of employment, including:

  • Up to 31 days annual leave
  • Hybrid working (1-3 days a week working from home)
  • Up to 12% employer’s pension contribution
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay
  • Life cover, and more
