Position Overview

Our client’s Digital Accessibility team seeks a Senior Digital Accessibility Specialist to expand its accessibility initiatives. This team comprises world-class experts serving researchers, scientists, and clinicians globally. They act as the voice of accessibility within a company that values empathy and executive backing.

The Senior Accessibility Specialist will guide product teams in digital accessibility, coaching on design, development, testing, and compliance verification with WCAG and other standards. The candidate should promote accessibility best practices to help teams integrate accessibility into their workflows.

The role involves recommending accessible digital content practices for web pages, mobile apps, emails, presentations, multimedia, PDFs, and other digital formats to meet WCAG standards.

Required Skills and Experience

• Extensive experience in authoring VPATs/ACRs for enterprise web applications.
• Deep knowledge of HTML5 and ARIA techniques for websites.
• Expertise in mobile application accessibility testing and techniques.
• Experience with testing tools like WAVE, aXe, Microsoft Insights, Color Contrast Analyzer and screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver.
• Proactive, autonomous work style with ability to succeed in a virtual team setting.
• Willingness to share knowledge and mentor others in accessibility concepts.
• Experience conducting usability and accessibility research with end-users experiencing disabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Create VPATs/Accessibility Conformance Reports aligned with WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
• Develop detailed remediation specifications for websites, mobile apps, and PDFs to meet WCAG 2.1 AA.
• Collaborate with developers and UX teams to test, validate, and steer design and code for accessibility compliance.
• Produce accessibility-related product documentation and feature descriptions.
• Innovate educational initiatives for staff on creating accessible content.
• Plan and execute usability testing with users with disabilities and summarize findings.
• Establish long-term accessibility collaborations across product teams.
• Preferred certifications: IAAP Web Accessibility Specialist or US DHS 508 Trusted Tester.
• Relevant educational background in Digital Accessibility, UX, Digital Design, or Software Engineering.
• Experience with UI design patterns, including rich internet and single-page applications.
