Job summary

CBSbutler Ltd. is seeking a Senior SecDevOps Engineer for a 12-month contract based in Reading with hybrid 3 days onsite per week. The role focuses on secure DevSecOps capabilities across data and integration platforms, embedding security throughout the SDLC within a highly regulated Defence/Aerospace context.

Key tasks include building secure pipelines, IaC implementation, automation, and ongoing security testing in CI/CD workflows. Required SC clearance and sole UK national status.

Qualifications

• Active SC Clearance required and sole UK national.
• Experience designing secure CI/CD pipelines in Defence/aerospace/government contexts.
• Hands-on with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and IaC tooling.
• Proficient in Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions.
• Proficient with Docker and Kubernetes; container orchestration experience.
• Proficient in scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
• Strong security engineering fundamentals and vulnerability management.
• Experience with OAuth, SAML and TLS.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain secure DevSecOps pipelines for data and integration services.

Senior SecDevOps Engineer - Secure Digital Platform (SDP) Data & Integration

Reading (Hybrid - 3 days onsite per week) £65.00 - £71.43 per hour (Inside IR35) 12-Month Contract Active SC Clearance Required Sole UK Nationals Only

We are seeking an experienced Senior SecDevOps Engineer to join a high-profile Secure Digital Platform (SDP) programme supporting critical UK Defence and Aerospace initiatives.

This role will focus on designing, implementing and maintaining secure, scalable and resilient DevSecOps capabilities across data and integration platforms. The successful candidate will play a key role in embedding security throughout the software delivery lifecycle, improving automation, and enabling secure digital transformation within a highly regulated environment.

Essential Requirements

• Active SC Clearance (must already hold current clearance).
• Sole UK National due to project security requirements.
• Proven experience working within Defence, Aerospace, MOD, Defence Digital or other highly regulated environments.
• Ability to work 3 days per week onsite in Reading.

The Role

As a Senior SecDevOps Engineer, you will be responsible for developing secure delivery pipelines, automating infrastructure deployment, integrating security controls and supporting modern cloud-based platforms.

Working alongside engineers, architects, security specialists and delivery teams, you will help ensure digital services are secure, resilient and capable of supporting mission-critical data and integration capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain secure DevSecOps pipelines supporting data and integration services.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation or equivalent technologies.
• Embed security best practices throughout the software development and delivery lifecycle.
• Automate security testing, vulnerability assessments and compliance checks within CI/CD workflows.
• Monitor and troubleshoot build, deployment and runtime environments.
• Support the reliability, availability and security of cloud-hosted platforms.
• Develop and maintain automation solutions to improve engineering efficiency.
• Support secure data integration solutions and ensure data availability, integrity and protection.
• Work with cross-functional teams including engineering, security, infrastructure and architecture.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers and stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities to improve DevSecOps processes, tooling and platform capability.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience working within DevSecOps environments.
• Experience designing and supporting secure CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong knowledge of cloud platforms including Microsoft Azure, AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience with automation and pipeline tooling such as:

  • GitLab CI/CD
  • Azure DevOps
  • GitHub Actions
  • Similar CI/CD technologies
• Strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code practices.
• Experience with container technologies including:

• Strong understanding of security principles, secure engineering practices and vulnerability management.
• Knowledge of authentication and security protocols including:

• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desirable Experience

• Experience supporting secure government or Defence environments.
• AWS DevOps Engineer certification or equivalent.
• Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or similar container certification.
• Experience with data platforms, ETL processes and integration technologies.
• Knowledge of microservices architecture and API management.
• Experience implementing GDPR or other data privacy requirements.
• Exposure to security automation, compliance tooling and cloud security frameworks.
• Experience working with hybrid cloud environments.
