Overview

As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you'll be central to designing, delivering, and supporting the cloud infrastructure that powers critical national services. In this role, you’ll work on designing scalable AWS solutions, implement Infrastructure as Code, and contribute to fast, secure, and innovative deployments that serve millions across the UK.

Accountabilities

  • Build, maintain, and optimise secure, scalable AWS infrastructure
  • Use Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred)to manage environments
  • Develop and support CI/CD pipelinesto automate and streamline delivery
  • Collaborate with engineering, architecture, and security teams to define solutions
  • Mentor colleagues, conduct code reviews, and guide best practices in DevOps
  • Produce low-level designs and provide input into system architecture
  • Provide third-line supportfor cloud environments, ensuring service reliability
  • Drive innovation and improvements to reduce cost, increase performance, and improve security
  • Join project-based scrums and lead on DevOps activities within delivery teams

Required Technical Skills (DevOps / Cloud Engineers)

  • Extensive hands-on experience with AWS(certification desirable)
  • Strong Infrastructure as Codeexperience – Terraform preferred
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and Git workflows
  • Scripting skills in Pythonand/or Bash
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-native technologies
  • Knowledge of AWS networking, cloud security, and cost optimisation
  • Comfortable working in agile environments with fast-paced delivery expectations

  • Proven DevOps engineering experience in production environments
  • Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration skills
  • Ability to lead by example and mentor junior engineers
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver secure, high-quality infrastructure at pace
  • Experience working in cross-functional agile teams
