What Is the Opportunity?
Join our dynamic team and take charge of producing and underwriting new and renewal business from our valued brokers. With your expert touch and strategic execution, you'll consistently deliver outstanding financial results—driving retention, pricing, new business, and profitability to new heights.
Collaborate with a team of regional and product specialists, as well as other internal and external partners, to attract new clients, retain loyal customers, and explore exciting new business opportunities. This role seamlessly blends underwriting and sales, giving you direct responsibility for broker development and management within your defined portfolio.
As a local expert and role model, you'll inspire and guide your team, actively coaching and mentoring Development Underwriters to achieve their best. If you're passionate about making an impact and leading by example, we want you on our team!
Travelers Europe currently offers flexibility to employees who wish to work on a hybrid basis in accordance with our Hybrid Work Arrangements Policy. This entails full-time employees working three days a week in the office and two days at home (or pro rata for part-time employees). This policy may be changed at the Company’s discretion.
This role is eligible for a 2500 GBP/EUR new joiner referral bonus. If you are successfully referred by an employee at Travelers Europe, both you and the person who referred you could be eligible for this bonus.
What Will You Do?
- Underwrite and assess risk for products and accounts from assigned brokers. Make appropriate decisions within own underwriting authority in addition to considered, intelligent, and complete recommendations to regional or product underwriting leadership.
- Consistent with TICL underwriting principles, underwrite more complex accounts and risks and consider different approaches toward risks to maximize profitability (pricing, retention, endorsements, limits, indemnity, security).
- Make prompt, sound decisions within underwriting authority and based on appropriate underwriting information. Negotiate terms and conditions consistent with regional or product underwriting requirements and standards within submission timeframe.
- Understand and execute product segment strategies to produce budgeted results.
- Continuously manage book of business (maintain quality of business required by regional or product underwriting strategy).
- Accountable for accurate underwriting documentation and information in account management systems and adherence to documentation standards.
- Embrace required working practices with allocated Underwriting Account Management resources to deliver appropriate and timely underwriting service on your accounts at all times.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues in Head Office, Risk Control, Claims, Actuarial, and other parts of the organization as needed.
- Ensure policies and accounts are effectively underwritten, handled, and documented in compliance with company and regulatory standards and requirements when exercising your underwriting authority.
- Develop and leverage broker/client relationships through high visibility and a disciplined sales management approach (planning and follow-up for broker and prospective customer visits/meetings) to support business objectives.
- Effectively develop and execute sales plans for assigned brokers in conjunction with regional sales leadership.
- Create and achieve sales plans that identify and capture new business opportunities and cross-sell TICL products.
- Act as a responsible business partner with assigned brokers and clients, managing TICL's interests.
- Seek out and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues in other business units and regions to foster business development.
- Participate or lead regularly scheduled regional and product underwriting and/or sales meetings with your team.
- Demonstrate superior customer service standards (consistency, quick response, product knowledge).
- Work with others to help achieve underwriting, sales, and production goals and understand and work towards strategic objectives.
- Engage with customers to meet response time and product knowledge expectations.
- Work strategically and tactically with brokers to ensure they have an appropriate level of understanding.
- Act ethically at all times, ensuring compliance and regulatory requirements are met through necessary training and certifications.
- Keep adequate records of all transactions with customers, brokers, and other parties to ensure fair treatment and compliance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
- University degree and/or Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Advanced Certification or Diploma preferred.
- Knowledge of industry operations, critical business issues, and financial drivers affecting the Line of Business.
- Understanding of the local insurance marketplace and ability to use that knowledge advantageously.
- Ability to seek out market insights and assist less experienced employees.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain productive relationships to meet goals.
- Business Perspective: Use knowledge of internal and external factors impacting the Lloyd's Market.
- Analytical Thinking/Financial Acumen: Analyze information to understand issues and support decision-making.
- Product/Technical proficiency: Demonstrate technical knowledge appropriate to underwriting authority.
What is a Must Have?
- Previous underwriting experience in management liability, professional indemnity, or financial institutions.
