What Is the Opportunity?

We're seeking a Senior Development Underwriter to join our Birmingham branch to support our growth ambitions! Using your property & casualty experience, you'll be responsible for producing new business, supporting the branch in achieving financial goals through excellent service, retention, and responsiveness to submissions. You'll collaborate closely with the Branch Manager, team, regional offices, and external partners, providing leadership and coaching to less experienced team members.

Travelers Europe offers flexible hybrid working arrangements, typically three days in the office and two at home, subject to policy changes. This role includes a £2,500 new joiner bonus, with additional referral bonuses possible.

What Will You Do?

• Underwrite and assess risks to maximize business growth and profitability within your authority, making considered recommendations.
• Underwrite complex accounts, considering various risk approaches to optimize profitability.
• Make prompt, sound decisions and negotiate terms and conditions aligned with underwriting standards.
• Align with Travelers' underwriting strategies to meet budgeted results.
• Manage and develop broker relationships, ensuring quality and growth of the book of business.
• Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to standards.
• Provide expertise and leadership in specific products or initiatives, coaching team members.
• Engage in training to enhance underwriting skills.
• Develop broker and client relationships through disciplined sales management.
• Collaborate across regions and units to foster business development.
• Participate in regional meetings and uphold superior customer service standards.
• Lead and coach team members to achieve underwriting and sales goals.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

• Preferred degree education.
• Proven underwriting experience, including new business development.
• Knowledge of the local insurance market and regulatory environment.
• Understanding of technical underwriting principles.
• Strong analytical, judgment, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Experience in broker planning and engagement.
• Customer-focused with positive broker interaction skills.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
• Relationship management skills; ACII qualification preferred.

• Previous underwriting experience in Property and Casualty.
• Valid driving license.
