Job summary

Department for Transport’s Digital, Information and Security Directorate is seeking a Senior Developer to design, build and improve modern digital services that support critical government operations. You will lead development across complex projects in the Create Service Line, mentoring colleagues and championing best practice in software engineering and agile delivery.

You will own the services you build, ensuring production stability and driving continuous improvement.

Working within the Create Service Line, you'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop secure, resilient and scalable services. You'll lead development across complex projects, helping to translate user and business needs into effective technical solutions while championing best practice in software engineering and agile delivery.

You'll take ownership of the services you build, supporting them throughout their lifecycle and identifying opportunities to improve performance, stability and security. Alongside hands‑on development, you'll act as a technical leader, mentoring colleagues, sharing knowledge and helping to build capability across the team.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with modern technologies, contribute to high-profile digital initiatives and influence the future of digital delivery at DfT.

Your responsibilities will include, butaren’tlimited to:

  • Understanding the whole system and take responsibility for teaching this to others.
  • Working with other disciplines to understand what needs to be built.
  • Coaching and mentoring more junior colleagues.
  • Operating the production services you build.
