Job Opportunity: Senior Design Managers for HS2 Track Infrastructure Project

We are recruiting two Senior Design Managers to join the HS2 Track infrastructure project during its initial design phase. This phase runs concurrently with the completion of main works contracts, which are currently at their peak. The team will mobilize as soon as civil works are completed and will operate under a collaborative Rail Systems Alliance structure to manage interfaces and resolve program conflicts. Members will collaborate on design, access, resources, and logistics to achieve shared goals regarding cost and schedule.

Reporting to the Engineering Lead, you will work closely with the Design and Delivery Teams, Design partners, and Alliance members. One role focuses on developing and leading the design for Calvert Infrastructure Maintenance Depot (IMD), while the other covers route-wide responsibilities between Birmingham and London.

Your work environment

BAM promotes flexible working policies and values diversity and inclusion. We are committed to creating an environment that nurtures our employees and encourages them to bring their whole selves to work, regardless of race, color, religion, national or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, or other characteristics.

  • Promoting engineering expertise and modern construction methods to add value.
  • Implementing 3D design delivery strategies aligned with BIM Execution Plan requirements.
  • Participating in engineering workshops and steering groups, reviewing technical proposals, and managing design programs.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory, legal, and planning requirements, and managing stakeholder interfaces.
  • Providing guidance, supporting risk mitigation, and improving safety and quality in design.
  • Coordinating design processes, managing changes and approvals, and maintaining effective communication and documentation.
Who are we looking for?
  • Strong leadership and management skills with a collaborative attitude.
  • Enthusiastic team player with decision-making confidence.
  • Degree in civil engineering or equivalent; Chartered Engineer preferred.
  • Experience in design and engineering management of buildings and rail depots.
  • Knowledge of design procedures, standards, and digital construction (BIM).
  • Excellent communication skills and practical problem-solving abilities.
